You first need to decide ... do you want a fish tank with plants or a planted tank with fish? Not all fish / water conditions are good for plants.

Oh now you have started it ... this is the eternal debate. Troll the forum a bit - Check some of Laure's posts on the mater.

I've seldom seen the seeds for sale - only the plants. I'm not sure where in Krugersdorp you'll find them though - your LFS should sell plants :)

hi werner, the gravel you asked me about, i bought from a guy who owns a bonsai nursery in Olifantsfontein, he sold it to me at the National Bonsai show this past long weekend.

I'm part of his bonsai club, so he did me a favour, as he usually sells the stuff mixed with compost to plant bonsai in.
says he buys it in bulk, so its probably from a quarry or something, i dunno

with lights, id say the "best" would be T5 for very high light conditions, but a few t8 tubes are fine, mix normal coolwhite or skywhite with a few growlight types, the pink or whatever type.

i know that too little lights and your plants dont grow well, so try to get enough strong light, but for colour, spectrum and temperature, i aint gonna comment, as its a running debate here, what light to use.

Plants do best in light with a wavelength between 550nm and 700nm if i remember correctly, so thats usually the colour spectrum ranging in the near blues and the pinks i guess, (thats where the kelvin references come in, to show which light operates in that spectrum) so if you're gonna be catering for PLANTS, and only have fish as an extra, then you can cater for it the right way by reading up on threads started by and added to by eskimo, solex69, f-fish, and laure for a few names i can quickly conjure up. also, see the prof's threads or comments on lighting, and fertilization (username Dirk Bellstedt)

That is it, you put the nails in the substrate, under the plant, it rusts away eventually.

Not at all - remember the nail is buried in the substrate , you never see the rust, Just dont use a nail to hold down railway lines :)

(you actually want it to rust, thats your iron supply leaching to your plants roots)
