Hi everyone, my first post here !!

Can someone please help me ID the following plants ?

The setup is still new, or has been running since 2 August. I need more info on the plants, especially growth rate to determine where which plants should go. If I need to move some plants around I need to do it now before the roots are to deep.

    Thanks in advance..

Thanks A new day and Maria S,
I only realised later on after posting the thread, there's a plants section and it seems I can't remove or move the thread there.
Sorry anyway for that!! I will pay more attention next time lol

Welcome to the forum and try again under the planted tank section. Or even better, start a thread for your tank with full tank shots and detail plant shots etc. then you can give details on your setup and ask any questions you might have in the same thread. I’m sorry I couldn’t help but please don’t give up! We’d love to see.

That settles it, alien species. If Pez can't identify they must be alien LOL.

Hope you come right. Following for interest sake.

Thanks anyway, strange thing in the 4th photo, the leaves has a very dark purple colour underneath.
I will add another photo of it tonight.

It could be that the plants were grown emersed, which would result in the leaves looking different to the submerged form we are used to.
Quite a few plants have leaves that appear purple underneath, or at various stages of their life.
Ludwigia, Lymnophila, Hygrophila and others all have various species that show that colouration.

I guess proper identification will only be possible once all the plants has established and are in their submerged state.
At the moment some of the plants are melting so its probably a good indication that the plants were grown immersed.

I see the resemblance in the toothed leaves. If indead wisteria, it will look a whole lot different once transitioned!
I have seen the plant (in your 2nd pic) at Sam’s Aquarium in Bergvliet. If all else fails you can ask them.

When I bought the plants they already had little blossoms at the stem where the leave comes out. Exactly where the flowers are in the link previously posted.
This will change the entire look of the tank, for now its fine to keep the algae out as it grows very fast but I will have to replace it or at least thin it out. I definitely don't want half my tank full of wisteria.
So the hunt begins for new stem plants.... again... lol. What do you suggest I add ?

    Top one - alternanthera reineckii

    Last one - bacopa monneri

I have no idea what the others are.

Yes soon-soon you’ll have enough stem plants for a whole fish room or to supply the whole Mpumalanga with stem plants  but yes they’ll help combat algae and absorb nitrates very well. Perhaps look at rotala species?

Also consider rather putting in more rooted plants (eg crypts, more swords) as they’ll help absorb gunk from below the substrate and are good for longterm tank health in that regard. Ie a mix of stem/floating plants, root feeders and epiphytes.

You have a nice setup already though!

@Rainstorm - I can see the similarities but I'm not 100% sure it alternanthera reineckii
As for the Bacopa Monnieri, I agree on that. It looks exactly the same.

I think I need to give it time for the plants to completely settle to its emerged sate before we can say 100% what which plant is.

@A new day - I live in Nelspruit. Aquarium plants aren't the easiest thing to find here lol. I have some Anacharis / Elodea in the other tank as well which I can add, I think I have a amazon sword or two as well.
I do like crypts but I have never found them in Nelspruit. I think I should look at getting some online somewhere.
Adding a Crypt Wendtii or two would be nice.

I had those before, which is why I recognised them. Whatever their name was, it is an alternanthera species plant and will struggle in a low tech tank. It will grow but stunted and will never have that deep stunning red colouring that most people see on the internet as it's an high light, high fert and high CO2 plant kind.
