Remember the idea is to figure out what works for you and what not. But yes the smaller the harder it really is. Esp if you have bigger tanks that seem to respond better with the same amount of effort.

    Later Ferdie

LOL @Pierré Schoonraad I have exactly the same problem - fluff keeps growing on the wood, the java moss is not doing so well and the anubias has died off. But surprisingly the grass is still going strong - possibly because I picked it from the river banks.

Also had other things get in the way too so I think I may decommission this bottle and just leave it there. Great learning curve though.

True what you say Ferdie. The algae I get now is completely different to anything I have seen before. Like a green spongy algae. And it has no end. Not giving up on this yet just going to increase the water volume and decrease the amount of containers.

Ag look at Ferdi. He's gonna kick dirt in everyone's faces again when he finally does something spectacular. After we've all failed dismally.

Ok out with the old in with the new. Removed all the plants from the pico's. Cleaned the 67x20x10 filled it with what ever substrate I had left over from other tanks and some osmocote. Capped it with small pebbles as the reptile sand got too dense for my liking. Water volume calculates to 11L but with the wood and substrate in it took about 8L so I will call it a maxi pico. Sorry for the crap photo will post another one later.c88e4a764e7d600c75235385a45ba2cc.jpg

I think one of the key things is to have at least one FAST growing plant (like anacharis) to combat algae in the beginning. Then, when everything is settled and growing nicely it can be taken out. Either that or make sure you plant LOTS from the beginning. Not sure if my theory holds water. The pro's can comment on it...
