We have central heating on from end of Sept to end of April
And summer temps should be ok.
So I think I will prob get away with it.

TBH I imagin that you can go in any direction with this. The container size will determin what you can and can't do with it in the end. I'm considering to add a shrimp or 2 to the vase and the consol jar. Will this be medium tech then?

Would you be able to keep Red Cherry Shrimp in a low tech (Natural light, no heater, no filter) planted Pico Setup?

I think you can. All depends on the water volume, won't attempt it in less than 500ml. Take in consideration that there is a bit of fluctuation in temperature during 2r hours. Mine go up to 28 and down to 18.

Jip, that will be the biggest issue. Fluctuation in such a small volume is almost instant. Not just temp, but ammonia buildup, CO2, Nitrates, etc. Just takes a tiny bit of anything for the water to become unsafe.

However, if you are going to put anything in, RCS would be the one. They are tough as nails, and can handle a massive variety of parameters. As long as the changes are not too drastic, they will be fine.

I popped a few into a nano tank I have. I have not added any food for them in over 2 months, and not only are they surviving, but they are bloody multiplying.

Had a look at the plants. But no point in starting the project until I get back from my holiday mid august

    Weekend update time!

I might be imagining this but some tiny new leaves on the baby tears this side.

Changed my lighting last weekend to one of those usb plugin LED things.

Seems to be working better than the desk lamp.

Havent done any water changes yet. No algae yet. Lol. Lets see...

I put a knife tip into Scape K and Trace once a week and add that to the bowl.

    Here's the pic

Ok I have come to the point where I finaly realized I suck at keeping to something. As these containers are standing in direct sun I must do a dayly wc else it goes south very fast. Unfortunately I don't have enough determination to continue with the small containers. I am still going to give it a go. Later today I will decomission all 4 of them but re-use all plants in a bigger container, the 67cm x 20cm x 10cm tank. Will still have no filtration on this. Don't know if this will still count as a pico though.
