I have had the tank for some years now...it was originally built as a quarantine tank for my marine tank back in 2008.

I had the tank refurbished this week, getting it resiliconed in black and black vinyl added to the back glass.

Some pics of nano's I tried to draw inspiration from for my setup...

I wanted to go with a raised corner section with rock work and driftwood branching out from the pinnacle over the tank...something I somewhat achieved :p

I managed to get a nice piece of Spiderwood for the tank...alas it was way too big and had to be cut to size...

My wife snuck a pic of us sawing the wood. :)

Setup took about 3 hours yesterday afternoon to complete...and I still dont think I am completely satified with the final outcome...possible more tinkering over the coming week. :)

Some pics of the set up in progress...

    Very very cool. Nicely done.
Part of the challange is to get a newly planted tank to look good from day one.

    You nailed it

That Zetlight looks very blue Mark. 6500 kelvin is the best colour temperature for plant growth. Those look like about 12000k?

thanks Broder, I'm looking forward to your unveiling! Sure you could get a cube whipped together if needed. ;)

nah it's not as blue as it appears, very white in real life..it's my phone it doesn't like LED lighting...always seems to enhance the blue spectrum in the pics. The back of the box actually said its main spectrum is 6500 which is one of the things that convinced me to go with it for the setup.

This little you tube shows its colour off better and it's over a planted system. :)

    Thanks for leading the way!

Does the driftwood give off any color?

Thanks RoGe...been wanting to setup a nano at work for some time now...so have been toying with different ideas for some time. :D

Thats a good question! I setup the tank at work on Friday afternoon and haven't seen it since...will find out tomorrow. :p

Technically it shouldn't release any tannins, as from what I have read spider wood shouldn't do so...it is a lot less dense though compared to Mopani...which is its only drawback...you can see in the filled tank pics I had to place a rock on it to keep it submersed. Should saturate over time though.

Well the question has been answered...yes it does. :/

hasnt darkened the water as much as Mopani when it first leaches...but there is a definite discoloration...with moving house and work being so hectic around the festive season I just haven't gotten around to doing a water change on it...hoping to get to it tomorrow afternoon if I get a free minute.

Still need to to add fish to the system...there were loads of strawberry rasbora end of last week at our LFS so hoping they will still be there in a day or so when I have a chance to collect and add to the tank.

I'm sure those strawberry rasbora are gonna colour up nicely.. I just can't bring myself to pay R25 for fish that look like fry:)

lol Broder you can see I've just left salt water...I thought theywere a bargain! :p they do look like fry, but that's what I like about them...the small size adds to the illusion of size of the tank.

    Thanks mate!

A pic of the tank this morning, as you can see it's become very saturated with tannins. :(

got a couple of free minutes at work this afternoon so did an almost 100% water change. Tank looks much clearer now. :D

While the tank was empty I removed the white pebbles as I felt they looked a bit gaudy. I had a piece of dragon stone lying at home which I smashed into rubble pieces and used these instead to give it a more natural appearance.

i also had time to get to the LFS and pick up my strawberry Rasboras...got a little school of 10...3 can be seen in the pic below.
