The time has come. Light upgrade or i hope. I want to give flood lights a go.

I have come up with this ideas

    IMG_20180904_170836.jpg

6 or 4 lights on the tank

This is one of those times where you read and read but doesn't amount to much so this is what i think i need and wil most probably sell to my parents if not needed.

Not sure if there is a Chamberlains near you. The one in Gauteng had eurolux led floodlights 10w & 20w for under R100 each a few weeks back...

I haven't used led floodlights before so not sure. I can tell you, don't buy the led strip lights from the China mall. I have the fully water proof ones and after about 3 months I am losing leds every now and then. Plants growing well, but a shlep to remove and remount new strips...

Just make sure you find out about how the plugs/connectors work as well. When I had a look at these at the China mall i was confused by the guys explanation of what was required in terms of connectors. O have heard of people having succes with these. Try and get the highest K rating available. The led strips I have are 6500k or so I was told ..lol

I bought fitting without thinking about the bulbs. I can get 6000k/6500k but

    looking for 10000k bulbs

    The fitting:

I will be running 2 double fittings..

That will be 4 bulbs running the length of the tank

Looks good. How will you mount them above the tank to avoid moisture?

You get normal florescent 6500k in most hardware or litting stores. Haven't seen 10000k

Looks good. Looking forward to see it as I also want to do an open top tank with a few plants growing out the water.

I also wanted to go that route, but then some of my fish started to commit suicide. Hood back!
