    Hey,

Can anybody give me info about these plants:

    Marimo balls,
    Pellia,
    Mini Java fern,
    Star Moss (Tortula ruralis)

    Has anyone kept them?
    Pros, Cons?

    Thanks

@shan I have them on order. Will see if they arrive and then get some more. @Wyvren Thanks for the link. Everything looks good on the list. Can't seem to find the star moss on the list or on the plantfinder.

@rjk star moss is not a true aquatic moss and according for some sites, dies under water after a few months

google it - but it does look beautiful

    Hi rjk,

Many plants have more than one name, one name is valid, the other ones are what are called synonyms. Many of the plant names that you have mentioned are names that are actually the synonyms and not the presently valid names. Also the blacklist will be changed soon, see New plant blacklist Most of the newer plants are not on the old blacklist and it actually is seriously outdated which is why the new list has been developed.

Marimo balls are another name for Cladaphora, and this is an algae which will not be permitted as it holds a danger for our natural rivers.

Pellia is the older name for Monoselenium tenerum. It is available in South Africa, there are some persons that grow it here.

Mini javafern, I grow myself and many of us grow it.

Star moss I do not know at all, but as someone else has indicated, may perhaps not be a true aquatic.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
