Seems like I'm full of questions lately but thats what happens wen I'm new to something I need my questions answered until I'm knowledgable enough to help others out. So here is my question I'm looking for plant types that are readily available pretty much anywhere that pull nutrients from the water coloum and anchor their roots into substrate I have medium gravel substrate of about 5mm I don't want to add to the substrate or change it so I need to get plants that suit those parimeters. O and I have a 72l tank I will fert the plants and I have 32w full spec light. Any ideas and help will b glady appreciated

easy growers are anubias, java moss, java fern...they maybe a few others, not sure about them...plus they will grow nicely with the fact that you are using ferts...anubias is generally attached to rock or wood though...hope this helps somewhat!

Hey Snyper, you mentioned the substrate depth is 5mm... did you not perhaps mean 5cm? 5mm is way to little for plants. They won't be able to anchor themselves in this.

Nice stem plants I can recommend which are fast growers would be: Rotala Rotundifolio & Limnophila sessiliflora. I've purchased both from the LFS here in Cape Town, so you might be lucky to find some over there.

I recommend you speak to Dolphin about purchasing some plants from him though. I think you'll be much happier with his quality to that of the LFS.

Snyper.. generally speaking the AQUATIC plants from most LPS are easy growers because they are not willing to put in the effort to keep them alive in their shops. (The hassle of undergravel ferts, colum ferts and CO2).

The big problem is that a lot of the plants that you get from LPS stores are not true aquatic.

I started with the common ones like, anubias (need to be tied to something), swords( the usual petshop one and a broadleaf one), java fern and ritola.
Did not kill any of them and had no fertilized substrate. They are usually what you find in every
    LPS

    Howzit Snyper.
Looking at your specs, shows you've got low to medium light.Stick with Anubia,Java fern and if can find some Crypts,it will be in your favour.Anubia and Java fern are very hardy and your fish won't eat them.Crypts can be tricky but the low light species are worth while.Vallis is always a good choice.
Just noticed you want strong substrate rooters, the Amasone swords commonly sold by LPS will work well with your specs.
