    Hi there...

I bought plants from an LPS on Thursday. Can someone please ID them for me?

Plants to the right, center and left?

Plants to the left (Amazon Sword) and center?

I have them in my tank so I feel I'd better know what I have. The guy at the LPS couldn't ID a single one! Thanks for the help...

    Sharp :)

Quick compare against images from The 101 Beat Aquarium Plants could match as follows.

"Plants to the right, center and left?"
(no clue ... )(no clue )(Ludwigia - ovalis or palustris)

"Plants to the left (Amazon Sword) and center?"
    ()(Hygrophila difformis)

I think the top 'Centre' is Giant Hygrophylia?? Unfortunaltely thats blacklisted, so just don't tell Henk!!

I agree with F-Fish that the Top right is some kind of Luwigia, but could not say it was those suggested??

Top Left - I can't really see the leaf shape clearly, but if its what I think it could be (can't remember the name of it now?) its not an aquatic plant, and is harmful to the fish!! I'll try and find out what the name is??

Hope that helps a little at least??

    Cheers
    G!

    Botany Bob,

Glad to hear that I have a fellow botanist on the forum, welcome.

Just one point. I do not know where this name of Ceratopteris siliquosa comes from. This is a very old synonym of Ceratopteris thalicteroides as far as I my literature (Christa Kasselmann) tells me. I have just wondered whether the tropical plant cultivators have purposely dug up this name to achieve more sales because the public think this is something new. Your thoughts and comments.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

siliquosa vs thalicteroides ... well in SA LFSs this is probably not a big problem since half the time the guys seem to make new names up or have no clue what the scientific name is. Wonder if it is not just industry ignorance?
