Picked up this plant at the lfs and it looked like anubias to me, but I'm not good with plant ID's,

and then I saw this little guy (the small fish hiding in the leaves).

Really unclear pic, he was the only one of his type in the tank, and there was a name on the tank, that was something like striped flying fox, or lined flying fox, something like that.
He was really small, probably 2cm and I highly doubt it is a flying fox.

hard to tell on the fish. would really need a better pic, especially of the tail and mouth. SAE and CAE look very similar

    So Echinodorus amazonicus then?

I'm really tempted to buy the SAE? for my staghorn infested tank, just not too sure what the flying fox would think of him.

They also had some interesting Clarius batrachus which look's really cool, just too bad they grow so big.

Two fairly quick ways to tell if its a true SAE:
    1) True SAE have badly developed swim bladders so they seem to be resting on their bellies a lot.
    2) The black line that runs the length of the body is serrated along the bottom.

If your fish has these 2 characteristics you can be fairly certain of having a true SAE. If you do I urge you to get 1 or 2 more if tank space permits as they are very social and do their best with their own company. They grow to about 10cm and resemble sharks once they mature a bit. They love fresh vegetable matter such as cucumber and baby marrow

the SAE also has a 'cory'ish mouth with small barbels where the CAE has a sucker mouth. also usually the black body line on the SAE extends onto the caudal fin, where the line on the CAE stops before the tail.

I've never seen a CAE in person, but from pictures on the web, it's hard to see why someone would confuse them for SAE's.
They have other blotches and dots on their body, their black line has bars along it, and their mouth kinda resembles that from a labeo or loach species (like Anine said).

I really want that fish, but I know my foxes dislike anything that resembles their body shape or wants to share their cave, so should probably give it a pass.

Thanx for all the info guys.
