I noticed a few days ago that the new growth on my one plant is very flimsy and a shade of bronze.
I have multiple shoots of this plant and some of them are doing the same while others are growing normally.

If anyone knows what is wrong with the new growth, deficiencies or something else please let me know.
Also if anyone knows the actual name of the plant that would be appreciated as well.

    New growth with bronze/flimsy leaves.

    Normal new growth.

It looks like a hygrophilia specimen. The bronze colouring is just the plant putting on some "sun tan lotion". As it looks like it is direct under the lights. this hygro speci likes a bit of shade. I saw that the curling of the leaves are normally a sign of insufficient CO2 or a calcium deficiency. but most likely the co2 is the thing.

    Thanks for the reply @ivan
I do have CO2 running in the tank for 4 hours a day. So its probably not a co2 deficiency

Its H. polysperma. Got a huge bush of it going without CO2, just excel.

If you can get a iron-rich substrate like Flourite the new leaves will start turning bright red at the veins.

@Phinix - As far as I can see - not much wrong with it at all.... the tops of the leaves do go that bronzy colour and does become less flimsy as they age.... Will post a top of tank view here this afternoon of it growing in my river tank(although I have a slightly differant strain to yours - H polysperma "Rosenvig")... It's looooong overdue for a trim - you will see it's growth form is almost exactly the same as yours...

See? Same colours.... Notice how the older, deeper growth reverts to a more normal green colour...

@azurekoi Thanks for the Pics, i actually did some trimming yesterday and replanted those with the bronzed look and today they seem to have regained some green. so maybe i'll just keep it pruned at a certain height and grow it into a bush.

If a plant grows very long stems and I want to get it to grow bushy. Is this a sign of fertilizer or light? hat can I use?

Can Icut the long leaves off?

Carel, generally this is a sign of too much water

No, Im kidding, often plants grow scraggly due to a shortage of light, akin to them 'stretching out' towards more light. You are more than welcome to cut those stems off, but I would increase my light first.

Why don't you start a thread introducing your tank and plants, along with your parameters and fert regime, where people can give you advice on challenges you might be facing, and ogle over your tank?

    Kind regards
