I'm new to this too, but I've just set up my own sump with the overflow diy pluming approach.
One thing I can tell you is that the diy overflow does take some fiddling to get working properly. It also tends to sound like a drain.
Other than that, I really like the fact that I didn't have to drill my tank :).

Drilling in the tank weakens the galss, but also for diy, you can do the plumbing in a box shape, same concept just a glass box and you dont see plumbing all the way to the bottom... google diy overflow box, or you can buy a reef octopus one for about a grand...

y not build an "internal sump" i have one in our work tank, does an amazing job.
you can hide it with plantsor maybe a panel on your frame. if you look at the jewel tanks they hide it in a nice way. even make space for a heater.

The only advice that I can give you, is the fact that most articles I have read will warn you AGAINST keep Discus and Angels together, so you might want to make a different choice about the inhabitants in your tank.

thanks for every ones input,im afraid to drill the glass but dont want to see all the diy pipping in my tank,as th7s is the idea behind the sump is to only have fish in my tank and no filters and heaters to be seen, aswell as the sump gives you an extra bit of water volume.dont want to paint my back black, because it darkens the discus, dont want it blue, becuase the discus in there is going to be blue,so im lost!
@a3aan,i think your are safe to put another website url on here, but thanks for the pm,i had a look at it and the overflow looks very simpel on there, even i will be able to do that!
thanks for advice @eros,i have seen all the warnings, but there are still people getting it right to have both this fish in their tanks,im reading up allot on it,and planning of deworming en deflaggete them when needed, this will be a challenge, hope it is with little trouble!
i might end up doing the diy overflow, but wish i could do it diffrently

    thanks everyone
