    Hi guys/gals
I haven't been on TA SA for a while. How things have changed:amazed:(for the better I'm sure)

So let me get straight to my question.

I want to build my own tank about 1500 x 500 x 700 (mm) and plan on building it into a frame (angle iron) , but thats the thing:wondering:.
Do i first build the frame then fit the glass or(this is what i think would be best)
do i build the tank first then build the frame around the tank?

Just to expand on the idea/dream I've got:
Planning to build sump for filtration purposes (underneath on same stand) as well as putting the stand on wheels(maybe) and there will be a compartment area for the food and all the other stuff to maintain the tank with.
I'm still pondering but would like some feed back first before i jump into this project/dream

    Thank in advance

I would say build the tank separate from the frame.
Just brace the top and bottom of the tank and you shouldn't have any problems.

Why do you want the angle iron around the tank? You want that "look" ??

Yes its more about the look, the adde strength is a bonus.

The wheels would just be used to move the tank around small distances and obviously the woul be lockable

Ok, search bath tub thread "dangerousD" did this on his 1.8
to move a tank of this size even on wheels it would have to drained it completely and thats a lot of water to waste.

If you want to go that route (the frame) then I suggets you build the frame and then just pust the glass in from the inside and silicone it to the frame and of course you should silicone it in the inside

yes (measure atleast 3 times to make sure you get it right) :)
    12 mm would be safer.

Will you just paint the iron with anti-rust or you going to galvanize?

You can go for 10mm as my 2m x 60 x 60 is made from 10mm and is braced all round.

Can i Chrome the andgle iron?

Also think the the angle iron would make it easier to mount lihgts etc. later on

I think if you really put some effort in the frame and get some chrome spray the people use on cars from places like Autostyle then I can't see why you can't chrome the frame.

A good but expensive paint to use is Hamerite and I think Plascon make some sort of a marine paint but is also expensive.

    That could work
I was thinking of actually thinking sending it in to be chromed.
    Would this help for corrosion?
Would it give off any "toxin's"?(although the tank would be completely sealed off from the frame )

    Changed my mind again:push:

I want to start keeping and breeding Guppy(Poecilia reticulata)

This is the design im thinking of:
    TankGuppy1.jpg

First let me explain the Sliding gates and swim way's(sorry about any confusion I am not sure what to call these features in the tank setup?). The main purpose of these are to move the male and female fish around without causing to much stress and to possibly eliminate the need to acclimatize the fish every time I move them.

Tank A would be used for female isolation before/after breeding.
Tank B would be used for mating/mixing of male and female fish.
Tank C would be used for male isolation before/after breeding.

Obviously the females would be acclimatized etc. when moved to the delivery tank( Drop tank as some may call it) as this would be a separate setup. From what I have learnt this would be best for fry and would also minimise the need to move the fry once they are born

I made this a while ago. It's like a V catcher. You put the female in the V section and the small opening in the bottom allows the babies to drop to safety.
It worked 100% for me. I am actually thinking of going a bit bigger with this and maybe take a 3ft tank and get a big piece of glass cut (from side to side) and put at a angle permanently angled in the tank as a breeder tank...

You won't stress the guppies that much moving them from one tank to the next. The only problem I see with your design is that everything is connected. If you buy a nice looking guppy somewhere I'd suggest a small quarantine tank to separate you healthy fish from the new ones as not to bring in any diseases to your setup.

I saw this when browsing through the different forums. Very good idea.
I will definitely be going that route when planning my second setup (Fry tank)
I have a spare tank approx. 60L that could be used as the quarantine Tank

Is this with the setup I have in mind or is it for if I had 3 separate tanks ( not connected )
