    Hi all.
When starting a new planted tank, what are the guidelines regarding calculating your photoperiod?
Should there be a 'siesta period' in between?
    TIA

I would start off with 6 hours for the first month, and increase it to 8 hours after they have settled in.

I ALWAYS recommend a "siesta" period. I don't see it benefiting the plants at all. It doesn't do them any harm... but it does assist with algae control.

My lights are 3 hours in the morning, siesta for 3 hours, and then on 5 hours in the afternoon / evening.
