pH shock on plants?

We all take precaution to acclimatize our fish to the correct pH when purchasing new fish. We all hope that our tap pH and tank pH is the same for when we do water changes (how many of you actually take this precaution?)

My question is simple... probably a simple answer will follow... Do plants get effected by pH? Do they go through pH shock when taking them from LPS into your tank? Should we be acclimatizing them too?

 

*Gasp*! We never considered the plants! Poor, poor plants!

Good question though. My moss died a little bit when I first got it, and then recovered, so not entirely inconceivable.

Nope,never worried about pH.Co2,yes.Light,yes.

 

I suppose this could also happen to filters when changing tanks and setting up new ones. Will tag along to see what people have to say.

 

I've never worried about it either... was just curious. If I can't keep this glosso in my tank alive, I would like to be able to blame the pH shock, and not my inability to keep it alive...

 

This is something moss do, not sure why but have observed it a lot. Moss will go to someone and die a little back or not grow for a while then suddenly start growing like mad.
I think this is more of an adjustment to temperature and light.

P.S why do crypts melt away and start growing again. Just changing form from emerged to submerged?

 

When I moved my crypts died back on me... amd they remained submerged for the entire move

ja baie interesant,we should ask the prof cause i have a lot of java fern in my 3 foot which is not 100% on the acidic side but which i'm working on getting there,now the plan is to move some to the other tank which i know is not now are they just gona gevrek after all the time it took to get them to where they hopefully will be.hell those plants grow slow.

Yes they did. And going WILD!

It's a bit irritating at speed... 3G. But when you on site at least I can log in.

 

Crypts I think the only species that seem to stress when water parameters change too much. Amano recommends not doing large water changes in tanks with lots of Crypts. Actually, in his gallery in Japan he keeps a 180 gallon tank with lots of fast growers (hygro, etc) and does 25% WC on Crypt tanks from water in this 180G tank.

Tonina species and Eriocaulon species seem to battle if water is not soft and acidic. As far as I know the rest of the plants we keep don't care about ph to much, as long as it is not extreme (below 5 or above 9)
