    Hey

I tested my water yesterday before doing a water change and got a pH reading of about 6.4 - 6.8ish using a test strip (which I know might not be too accurate). This was a bit concerning as my tank has Malawi Cichlids in it. I then tested my tap water using another strip and a pool test strip and got roughly 6.8.

Is this about right for Joburg water?

I'll bet hold of some crushed coral, but how does a low pH actually affect Malawis as they seem to all be ok?

Seems about right. That's pretty much what I've been getting out of my tap water in Roodepoort area.

I get 7.6 from the Roodepoort area..

The trick is to keep your ph constant, don't worry too much about actual values

I agree keep constant ph will cause less stress to your fish then if you keep changing and adjusting it . my ph from tap here in centurion is around 7.4 and I keep a variety of fish no hassles

    Thanks guys.

I'm in the Norwood area. Seems like the water on the eastern side of town may be more acidic than the guys on the west.
