Hi All, so im in the process of budgeting for another big tank, I will be looking at a 2000 length by 600 Wide.

    My question is..

What would be the perfect hight for an aquascape tank.

my current tank I think i a bit too deep at 600 height, i thinking the less the depth the less the light required.. or am I wrong.

    thanks
    Ammar

    Hi,

I have found 30 to 40 cm deep is quite nice - easy to reach the bottom of the tank and the light penetrates that depth sufficiently enough.

but if you work on about 7 to 10 cms of substrate, that does leave you with much at 30cms.

how does one figure out if light penetration is adequate enough?

I actually just read the exact same thing on a blog post. i must admit my tank was doing great with 4 round LED 24W lights, I went and added 2 lights and got hit by slight hair Algie which i need to get under control before my whole tank becomes a dump.

Yes I spoke with a well known UK aquarist long time ago and even he said it is not always the amount of light that is the only factor but the balance of the tank.....
