I have a pair of Pearlscale "Peruvian Altum" Scalare Angels from Altum which I received on Friday 04/01/2013. I have this pair in a 60L tank only with a large sponge filter and Ehiem heater. This one of the tank's i use to grow-out my betta fry, i decided to try out a pair these angels. The first 2 days where very scared so I left them and tried not to spook them off, as this tank is set-up very high out of any traffic. Late Tuesday night I noticed that pair started to clean the base of the tank and Wednesday approaching the tank to feed them both started to attack. The my eyes fell on this cluster of honey colour eggs. During Thursday eggs started to hatch and parents are continousely picking up fry and spitting them out again. During the course of the evening noticed that the pair had now moved the fry to the centre of the tank and guarding.

I will post pictures later as I do not want to spook off the parents with flash photography.

Fry are now free swimming and a very large batch. Started feeding newly hatched baby brine shrimp. Parents are now more alert and aggressive when approaching the tank. The tank is set-up high out of any traffic movement so they do not get spooked off. Fry giving parents a hard time swimming all over the tank. The tank size is about a +- 80L as this tank I used to grow-out my betta fry. Last night was interesting parents gathered all fry together an placed them near the sponge filter as to say "bed-time". I am still keeping on the bed-lamp at night near the tank.

Seeing that they had spawned so quick soon I will need to remove parents and they would probably spawn again. I have a spare tank running at the moment for the pair to settle down. I only noticed once the fry became free swimming that the batch is very big. This is a new challenge for me and later would venture into discus breeding.

Note the shape and colour of the true "Peruvian Altums" posted above. You were sold normal domesticated angels from Asia and most probably paid a fortune for them? @Dirk can provide more info on the angel genetics etc.

I think the title to this thread is just misleading. It states both "altum" and "Scalare".
Peruvian "altum" is an oxymoron - no such thing exist. Lots of controversy about this.
    Let @Dirk maybe comment here.
But to:)my knowledge there are no Altum angels in Peru

Im sure Keith meant Peruvian Scalare only.

No ones been had, just a misunderstanding
