    Hello to all

Everyone has had their experiences with these fish. I would like to house them in my 4 foot tank with livebearers, ancistrus and cories.

What tank mates have you had good experience with in community with Pearls?

    So should rather avoid them?

Well the best experience is that, that you gain - but you have a much better chance at keeping other fish in the same community tank for longer if you pic a few others. Build the community over time, I would not suggest you go and buy 12 new fish and dump them all in the tank and go hey look here - now you fish are a community ;-) if you are serious about building a longer tank - make sure you get to grips with a QT first.

Did you cross check your selection with any of the comparability charts?

Any fish that does not tail nip like tetras, mollys etc, gouramis get big so try not to overcrowd to much, my male like his space and chase anything that invades it, work on 5L per fish approx

The tank will start with my current 2 foot stock. I'm not looking to rush into buying any fish, I just want to make sure I do my research properly before deciding.

THE compatibility charts I've checked say they are fine with my current stock and a few websites say they are peaceful fish o_O

Good, if you have a well stocked tank with loads of plants esp plant that reach the water surface and give them that space it can work. For all the gourami the pearl's are the simplest to keep - most problems start when you want to introduce other gourami in the same tank.

Thanks. The other option I have considered is to rather go for a dwarf option, Honey Gouramis.

Thanks, so it seems the Honey Gourami is a good option according to that thread. And, in a 240 litre tank, a pair might do quite nicely with other species.

Will do. It's still gonna be quite a while... Long way to setting up the tank.

In such a tank I'd definitely keep Pearls instead of honey's.

In most cases Pearls are incredible docile fish if kept in a pair or a harem.
There is always a chance you'd occassionaly bump into a male that is less friendly character but they are jewels in a tank.

    No Cory no glory

    Thanks very much.

Always good to get more than one opinion. Will take my time and consider it. Keeping Pearls has always been a dream of mine. I just haven't had a tank big enough to house them

They really are one of my favourites.
I rehomed my male though after the female died cause I tried to go totally South American. But I miss them !!!
I have NEVER seen any agression between them nor to other fish.
They need plants and floaters btw
