hey guys ive taken and old 60l sump removed contents and made it into a new mini marine .used existing holes in the back glass and piped out into a smaller 40l sump below using 25mm tube .

problem is the outlet overflow is sucking air all the time making a vortex and its louder than all the other tanks put together .IT IS GOING TO DRIVE ME CRAZY ,ive put the green pipe into the outlet to controll my water hieght in the tank and sump (this works perfectly) how do i stop the air sucking or do i need to redo the whole outlet area ?

You should convert to using pool pipes then you will be able to buy all your sump stuff from a pool shop.the noise can be stopped using a pool pipe valve cover.

I know a guy who uses this, the tank is super silent!

    Hi Storm,

There are many ways to do this silently. As Henk has suggested, the Durso Stand Pipe is probably the most commonly used option.

    Just on a side note...

Keep a very close eye on that outlet pipe silicon. Silicon can be very fickly at the best of times, and temperamental to say the least. In the event of a leak occuring at this spot, you will have the following occur:

    * Water will drip from the leak onto the floor. THis means less water will be going into the sump
    * What will eventually happen is the water in the sump will be pumped into the tank, but will overflow through the hole onto your floor.
    * This means the sump will eventually run dry.
    * The pump will burn out. And assuming you running a heater and secondary pump in the sump for aeration (as many doo) you will land up with the heater packing up (unless it has a fail safe option on it) and your secondary pump will burn out.
    * Marine fish don't like having no filtering for extended periods, so they will take a huge strain too.

    Just my cautionary tale.
