You only posted this 3 hours ago. Perhaps a bit of patience? During office hours the forum can be slow, and even slower during school hours.

This is a very random and different question being asked, there may only be one or two people who can assist.

I'm also keen to see your responses, as I've just had my tank moved and want to change my filtration strategy.

Have a look here, not a overflow box but a pvc overflow, same idea just a lot cheaper, myne cost me about R150 whilst a box like that is around R1000 if you buy it...

To build one like that you will need to be able to heat-form acrylic (Perspex). Actually quite involvled unless you have a contact with the necessary equipment. I assume in your case there is a reason you don't want to just drill the tank?

    HI GUYS
    THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES

@doug - HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR IT?

@oupoot - LOVED YOUR THREAD BUT I'M NOT KEEN ON ALL THE PLUMBING IN THE TANK

@Aqii - I DON'T HAVE ANY OBJECTIONS ON DRILLING MY TANK. I'M JUST NOT KEEN ON IT

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO HEAT AND BEND PERSPEX. I GOT PLANS ON HOW TO DIY AN OVERFLOW BOX, SO GONNA TRY IT BUT WANT TO KNOW IF ANY OF YOU EVER TRIED IT, CAUSE PERSPEX ARE A BIT PRICEY SO I WANT TO DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.(HOPE SO) I GOOGLED IT AND GOT ALOT OF ANSWERS BUT WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE.

hi there guys. so i decided to go with the diy pvc overflow as my overflow box kept on breaking the siphon. so now i got a new problem. there is not enough flow back to the sump through the overflow. cause within 5 min my tank starts flooding.
so please can anybody help. @a3aan i know yours work perfectly so your input will be much appreciated.
the overflow is built from 40mm pvc piping and according to me it should be more than enough.
my return pump specs are 1800 lph but there is no spec on what head.
here are a few pics. so please feel free to comment.

Hey looks good. The overflow is a bottom pickup and uses horizontal flow will work 100 but they flow much less than a surface pickup that uses vertical flow. (Check those charts in the link you have to. If you can't find it I will post it again.)

So now you can solve this in 2 ways. You can either put a T just after your return pump with a ball valve and direct this flow back to the first chamber of your sump. So then you can open and close the ball valve to get the return pump not to out perform your overflow and without putting strain on the pump. Or you can use the surface pickup overflow in your 40mm size. Either way it will solve your prob.

But before anything make sure you don't have an air lock in the u bend that goes over the tank edge. I had that prob with mine to. ( I blocked off the exit into the sump with a end cap and sucked on the stand pipe. Let it fill al the way and then open the outlet in the sump. The rush of water pulls the air lock out. )

Hope you come right. Let me know. Will come give a hand...
