    Hey guys,

I heard that there is no such thing, but I'm not sure.

I'm running a 6500l/h pump in my sump as well as FX-5 with just filter wool in it.
My tank is about 900l and sump 300l. Sump has a liter of de-nitrate, almost 5l of Matrix,
    1,25l of purigen.

Not a big bio load, not a lot of fish, but I feed them a lot. Lots of apple snails and MTS that eat all the leftovers.

There are no dead spots in the tank, but my sump has 5 compartments.
Does that slow down the flow?
I want as much flow through my matrix as possible.

Will a stronger pump be good or bad?

    thanks

    RJ

Jip, No such thing as too much filtration. A bigger pump will work only if it doesn't push the water over the edge of the sump. The more compartments you have the more the flow is restricted. Do you have a pic of the sump design? The FX5 with filter wool only will polish that water brilliantly. So good on that. Just change it regularly to avoid clogging.

The FX-5 gets regular cleaning. sump stays clean for the most part.

This was the original design, it ended up as a 1,5 instead of 1,2 and other dimensions changed a bit too.
first compartment as de-nitrate and overflow pipes in a filtersock. Second comp is full of mechanical filtration media. Third has flourite and plants cuttings that I grow out. Forth is where all my Matrix is. Like a waterfall effect on the matrix for oxygen. Fifth is where my pump is.

    @rjk,

Why do you have a sump and a FX5 on a tank that size?
I would have thought a FX5 with the correct media would be adequate.

FX-5 sucks up all the poop and decomposing material before it reaches the sump. It provides awesome water circulation inside the tank. I can do waterchanges with it. I would not have been able to put as much media in it as i have in my sump. It is overkill, but makes for a clean tank and sump stays clean for a long time. Also breeding in my middle compartment in sump. Full of flame moss and Pogostemon Helferi.

When I just had the sump my plants did not do as well, even Java fern turned brown. Now new growth is everywhere.

    Any suggestions or critique?

Well I think that amount of filter media is great for good bacteria colonization. And the floss trick helps. If you want you can add carbon or Purigen to the FX5. Also water polishing agents. But enough chat. Where's the pics?

Bubbler is moved behind the 'mountains' and the middle hanging garden has gravel in.

Nice setup ... I doubt one can do over filtration ... now to much aeration hmm that could be a different story - anecdotal but here goes, had a lovely crypt tank .. only 3ft but stacked .. added some new crypts that was sold in the gel media BUT also knocked the filter (internal cascade) so that its water diffuser came off. This caused huge water ripples and bubbles and all sorts of extra aeration. Few days later 90% crypt melt .. even the established that was standing tall for almost a year.

Will be keen to see how your plants do with the bubble curtain .. I am in two minds since air has loads of CO2 in it, but my understanding is that it is easier to drive CO2 out the water than dissolve it in water.

    Keep the pics coming ..

The air curtain is behind the big rocks nou, so it flows up to my waterfall. Just put it in the middle to test how the air pump works. Can't keep the pics coming. Only going to be home in May again. Dads looking after my tanks. That's why it's in the garage. Hahaha

According to your location you're in Baghdad. Where's the farm?

How long has it been in your tank?
