    So I have this tank in the bar that gets a lot of natural sunlight as it is at my outside lapa bar clear in pics. Had some convicts in there for a while but got bored with them and moved them out. So i have been busy with green algae (obviously), and i got me thinking to try a planted tank. Went to the local PS, bought some random plants and stuck them in here. Also some guppies and danios. Just to have some fish in the tank. Have no idea what kinds of plants these are, will they work together or not, etc. Any pointers advice appreciated. If possible would like to get a nive heavily grown tank as a feature. Not too botherred about livestock for now. Any advice...go...068ebb10d2cf5ee7da75d84e1c4d91fb.jpg9ee710f6121d55d56800d4c962162719.jpgeeac86a78f1a1b187d1894afc3bc93c5.jpg

    BUMP. I don't know plants that well, a chime in from someone with more knowledge would be appreciated.

    Looks like vallis on the far right. And Ludwiga second to left on the wood.
    Not sure, but maybe a type of hygrophelia second to left.
    And dont know what is far left, possibly some type of sword, but can be waaay off...

    And you will battle with algae as long as it gets direct sunlight.

    Ignoring the plants - since one can not click on the image to zoom in and see what is what, I will comment from experience and pics with growing things outside.

    If you are serious about growing submerged plants, remove the pebbles / crush or whatever the substrate is, either go for PFS or a growing substrate so that you know what you are working with and that your plants have a fair chance of rooting. When things get exposed to sunlight ... this is typically a risk on a very rocky substrate.

    If you are getting direct sunlight from the top of the tank you might expect growth like this for HM
    u-14pQ_v_1Ka9hydGrB25MTIlDLiKAfqHoo5R3tkdvy6QLy8u8KOW57hAVx0OZZUeFt_v8pjrh1d7Ye-Yg=w712-h1265-no.jpg

    or if you have duckweed and moss

    2tadqTzsOY7_AtvPjcLl9unkH5YF0yPe7TyRms22pqBwqPh5_RMo6fy-d7FifBrqIbFyRkyjGIbj0TVdyQ=w712-h1265-no.jpg

    either way - some shade cloth really helps ... as with direct sun all day here doing a dry start.

    But is can also create problems ..

    JiFQfTWEZ5dHtw13crS4olPDv0gYx9Lrz8f6sgnUicJKPmnrS9mi7BU8ELGxCunazboNs33JEbNTekpxA=w2200-h1238-no.jpg

    and yes our plants actually mostly do not want to grow under water..

    and really do reach for the sun

    @f-fish or anybody '
    Which plants do best outside, other than swords, vallis, lilies and the annoying floating weeds.

    HM loves the outside even direct sunlight but actually most plants, some just need a bit of shade or slowly be introduced to direct sunlight. Don't think I had a single plant that I could not get growing outside better than what they do in the house during summer.

    Ferdie i followed your advice. Got flourite dark and blackened out the rear of tank so not as much direct sunlight anymore. My plants are taking slowly and can already see new leaves here and there. I have orderred more growing substrate to cover entire bottom and hide all the larger gravel. What do i do to get the algae under control. My tank is 100l and i have added algufin 50ml over two days but it seems to be getting worse. dd0d7e4e19e10bbcdac6221ba95df1df.jpge4a2147fe731c2df3e9ab74a0c832ba2.jpgc1da74489f7a6cc90b8db425a5078572.jpg30d979a1fc805f7d810e2cdb9d00752f.jpgd8b3be9cae7d0ea4a19ca9a154bea70e.jpg

    It does look good, now add a few more fish to help feed the plants. 20 guppies will do nicely.
