After alot of homework I had done, I decided to get myself the Odyssea 4x39W T5 lighting Unit.
It consists of 2x 10000k T5 Light Tubes
2x Actinic blue T5 light Tubes

I changed the 2 Actinic lights for 2 Giesemann 6000K Midday lights

I installed the unit on a 90cm Planted tank

The colour after removing the Actinics with the Giesemann Middays are very nice. Maybe a bit yellowish in my tank, maybe due to the wood piece i have giving off some yellow colour.

I am considering changing one of the Giesemanns for a blue actinic T5 to give a more better colour.

    Bought the unit for R1400.
Got the two Giesemann Middays T5s at Dorry Pets, R243 per T5

Hope to see some good growth soon in my tank

Next on my list is a Pressurized C02 System
Waiting for my regulator from ebay

    Hey Carel :)

I can't believe no one replied to this thread :0 Well anyway, it sounds like a plan to me :) But are you sure you want to be running 4x39w over a 3ft tank? I have the exact same fixture as you and I only run 2x39w.. Unless you're going full out ferts and C02..It might become a algae fest..

You have a point. Why whould they make a 90-100cm quad lighting system to fit on a 3ft tank if it was too much light?

My plants are growing although I have a bit of hair algae currently

Would you say I remove two t5s and run only two(78W) Lets say a 10000k and a Geisemann Midday 6000K?

is this a std 3 foot tank? if so, then i would go for just 2 x 39W Tubes, this should be plenty for a std 3 foot, maybe once you start fertilizing and you have your pressurized co2 then you could run all 4, but i somehow feel like 4 x 39W will still be a bit too much for a 3ft.
I think maybe they designed it with 4 tubes maybe more for reef tanks, where you would need different colour tubes.

maybe someone more knowledgeable can comment here, what @cheddar254 says is true, you could end up with some serious algae issues.
    any pics of your tank?

I'm no expert or anything..but can you give us more information on your setup, like
are you dosing any column ferts?
    Substrate?
    If you're using any C02 / excel?
Type of plants you intend to grow? ( low, medium, high light )
How long you keep the lights on? ( Photosynthesis period )
    Stuff like that :)

@Carel Laubscher,I also run the Odyssea T5 Quad unit. I bought 2 x 90cm units for my 2m tank as apposed to one long one. (easier to change light tubes!)
i also changed the actinics to 6500k tubes.
Initially I ran 4 tubes in the early am and late afternoon with all 8 tubes over late am and early afternoon. I found i started having a algae problem and so cut down to just using 2 tubes of each unit (i.e 1x10000K and 1x6500K) which i'm finding is working way better, so I definitely advise only using 2 of your tubes on a 3ft tank. but you might find that even that could be too much unless you have an adequately planted tank?

I love the look of the daylight and actinic combination and was thinking of running the actinic bulbs with the daylight and 6500K bulbs. I just wonder if this would work? so I'd be interested in whether you add an actinic bulb with your daylight and 6000K tubes. Do you know if you can just run 3 tubes off the unit or does it have to have 4 bulbs working if both switches are on?

The unit is originally made for a marine tank hence the acitinic and 10000' tubes.

    With CO2 run 2 middays and a 10000K

Without CO2 rather run 2 tubes.

    @Valenshki, I Currently run 2x 10 000K T5s and 1 Blue Actinic and one Geisemann Midday 6000K
So what I now want to do is Running only 1x 10 000K, 1x6500K Midday Geisemann and one Blue Actinic
I suppose this will be more adequate ligting rather than too much

I am not sure if you need to run al 4 tubes, but I will be testing this, this afternoon.
Otherwise you can switch one of the two power ballasts off and only install two tubes thus leaving the one balasts unused...

Your tank is also a little overstocked..I would remove the pleco as they produce a ton of waste..Overstocking could be a contributing factor to the algae?

I am currently running the Quad 39W t5x4 System
    It is set up with 1 Geisemann midday 6500K, + 2 Blue Actinics, + 10 000k Aquastar t5

Would this be sufficient over a 90cm 3foot?

    I am thinking of trying to run only 1Midday 6500k + 10 000K Aquastar + 1 Actinic + 1 Geisemann Pink t5

What do you think? This is mainly focused on the right balance of colour yet also good plant growth.
