    Guys

Need help, I was thinking about Purigen or an Ozonizer and decided to spend R800 for the ozonizer

So the with my air pump with 2 outlets,1 outlet with air stones in the tank (normal o2), I have another outlet into the ozonizer (inlet)
then on the outlet of the ozonizer, I split the 2 again into the sump area
I have Matrix Carbon running in stockings (dont tell my wife if she is missing some stockings)
and the air stone with the O3 is right under it.

    I set the O3 at 15mg (or 150)
My question is, can I continues to run this 24/7?
I am not using any meds for the mean time as they said O3 will handle Ich and other crap
how will this O3 affect my fish and plants and most of all, the bacteria inside the sump where the air stone is

    anyone??

    Thanks

O3 is pretty poisonous stuff. To give you an idea of how poisonous - they are starting to us O3 instead of chlorine at some WWTW to kill off the harmful (and good) bacteria before it gets released into the rivers/dams. If you breath it in it will also burn your lung tissue and could, if you are exposed to high enough dose, cause permanent damage and in extreme cases death. On of our former agents worked in a pump station where they had O3 running and had to be pulled out after he lost consciousness.

So back to your tank - Why do you want to use it?

do people use ozone in freshwater tanks? ozone is corrosive i would think it would do more damage than anything else

You can use O3 to sterilize anything not just marine tanks.

I tend to agree with Henk on this... O3 is not a toy, and should be researched thoroughly before even considering buying an O3 unit!

Too much O3 would kill your entire tank, never mind bacteria.

As @firemanmuzz said it is corrosive meaning it lowers your ph to the limit if you don't use it correctly and thats what kills your fish

    @BBQ

Id suggest you do some extensive research before plugging this in. Theres too much risk without doing proper and extensive research.

Also, in a marine system, it's often added to the skimmer chamber. Where it reacts with the water and the excess is immediately expelled out of the water... This is the safest application environment... But even then, it corrodes the skimmer chambers.

@BBQ i think you need to give your tank time and let it run its natural course ,im a strong believer in the ability of a tank to maintain itself ,read a book diana walstedt ,if you build a self sustaining environment plants ,substrate ,light ,good filtration, temp controll ect with minor water changes your tank will look after itself.I dont think you need the latest gizmos to keep your tank healthy.

I know, but im stuffed with stupid fish deaths (and my tank is well cycled already) but still losing the odds
and ich is pissing me off, doesing Paragaurd to kill off this well know old parasite.
and Alge (tho getting 1 oto the other day died instantly when it got into my tank)
Ammonia nothing, nitrate nohting, PH constant 7.4 -7.6
other fish are very heatlhy and growing at a rapid rate, im cutting food now days to every 2nd day
cos they love eatting bloodworms - went out and brought 10 packet of them.
Brine shimp, euroworm, mysis they are rejecting..
