Nutrafin Cycle - any good?

I have Nutrafin Cycle that I dosed into my brand new tank.

Has anyone used this product? Does it really work?

Will my tank cycle faster using it?

 

I've used it - in short it worked well with the ammonia but didnt help at all with nitrites

I was actually talking to a very clued up LFS owner today who said that Nutrafin Cycle is outdated and that Organic Aqua and Tetra Safe Start are much better products.

In your case your tank is likely to have no ammonia or nitirites (unless you put fish in straight away). The bacteria you added would thus have no "food" to sustain them and would die out pretty quickly... the best thing to do if you want to try and skip a normal cycle period is to add one or two hardy fish and wait aprox. 24 hours to allow a suffiecnt build up of ammonia and nitrite before adding your chosen product.

Dont forget to use a chlorine/chloramine remover before adding the bacteria!

If you are going to use a product to cycle a tank, the best one to use, I have found, is Seachem Stability. Follow the instructions and it works like a bomb. I've added sensitive Apistos the same day as setup using it and they were fine...

 

I second that. I've never had any problems with Stability.
If you are on friendly terms with any LPS owners, see if he is prepared to give you a handful of gravel from his tanks, or even better, some filter material from one of his set up tanks. That'll get the bacteria colony started in your tank even faster!

Henk... how can you be sure it's "good stuff" if it's only hitting SA market in 2 weeks. I know you importing it... but that could result in a biased opinion!

i have found Kent ammonia detox to be the most effective "quick" start to a tank. used it many times when moving tanks from 1 house to another with the current fish in it...
