    Hi and welcome

What size tank do you have? Is your tank busy with activity with a combo of fish like you have?

@allyzone - Hi and welcome. Please post your tank specs, filtration etc. There are a lot of incompatable species in that tank and some potential monster fish. Give us some more details.

filter i have noo idea ... went to northlands. told them the tank specs and they gave me a filter... I turned the pressure of the bubbles down cos fish cant swim.

    heater i got 100w...

With the combo all the fish are doing diff things... Noticed feeding time the bottom feeders get left cos the gold fish are greedy.. but strangely the clown loatch and pengasious eat malawi pellets

hi dude, welcome to the forum, i'm sure you will get plenty of good practical advice here with lots of people very willing to help :)

all of the best, you do seem to have a lot of incompatible fish in the tank, but i'm sure here you'll get some good direction on sorting it out nicely, for example what fish are better kept with other's and so on :)

Gold Fish im not worried about so much.. Gouramis dont fight at all.. Tank stays on constant 26 - 27 Deg even @ early hours of the morning.. I have a second tank that i put the gouramis in while they were breeding but thats smaller ( its about a meter long ).. what thinking of moving all the small ones in there... Neons and Tiger barbs...

I feel my tiger barbs are the cutest-ed.. wen i put blood worms in the way they go attack it...

LPS warned me about having snails with the barbs.. but no issues yet.. Feed them twice to thrice a day... Morning ( Flakes ) 8:00 ---------- 17H30 flakes and bloodworms and somethings before i sleep i'll give them a small treat ... Am i over feeding?

Hi, You definitely need to add more tiger barbs get rid of the goldfish they are not supposed to be in warm water tanks.

You have to get rid of the neons they are way to small and docile for the other bigger fishes in the tank.

    @allyzone Welcome to the forum...

Feeding: Feeding 3 times a day is fine as long as you keep your portion sizes correct, which means the food should be finished within 2 minutes. Also, you should try NOT to feed in the first hour of "lights on" or the last hour before "lights off".

It's always difficult as a beginner NOT to fill your tank with all those beautiful fish in the LFS, but research must be done and compatibility issues must be sorted out before it becomes a problem. Most fish only show their true nature when they reach sexual maturity, which differ between species.

Like the guys said, there are some incompatible fish in that tank. So the best starting point to sorting out some of the fish will be to pick your absolute favorites and post them. Then the guys can give you advise as to what to remove and what to add.

I know its difficult to choose certain species above others, as well as limiting the numbers of each species (different for each species) but it will be of great benefit to your fish, and it will make the hobby much more enjoyable and less frustrating for you.

ok this is rather bad, fish do not have eye lids, so they cant sleep if the lights are on all the time and it will stress them out, try to keep the lights on for not more than 10 or 12 hours a day, if you have lots of algae, then rather only have the lights on for 6-8 hours a day.

@alleyzone, i see that you have a large selection of fish, which you've listed for us above... some of these fish see others as food, mainly because of size differences, and others will be aggressive towards other fish because they think they are stealing their territory....

for now, to try to get some peace between your fish, here is what i would suggest you do. this will not be a perfect solution but it might save some of your fish for the mean time:

you will need to split the fish like so:

    in 1 tank put:

5 tiger barbs, 1 gold barb,2 bala sharks, 2 clown loaches, 1 pleco, 3 neons and 1 angel

    in the other tank put:

all the 9 gouramis, 1 angel, albino shark, 1 pleco, 1 comet, one gold fish.

i dont think the neons will last long in either tank but they stand a slightly better chance with the bala sharks. hopefuly they will not get eaten too soon.

i advised that you split the angels so that they dont fight with each other, and i've advised that you keep the 7 gouramis together to try to spread the agression out so that no single gourami will get picked on consistantly..

the albino shark (albino rainbow shark??) you will have to split from the bala sharks as he will terrorize the bala sharks to death.

i've also advised that you split the pleco as the ycan be aggressive toward each other and they also produce huge volumes of waste, so by splitting them, one tank alone wont have to deal with both pleco's waste.

may i ask how long you have the tank running?

and also do you do water changes, that is to say, do you remove some of the tank water (say 20% and replace it with new treated water?) every so often like maybe once a week?

if anyone has any other thoghts on how best to split these fish up into something a bit more manageable i'm sure it would be very appreciated..

@allyzone, it seems as if you've lost a lot of fish, and i know that feeling, i've been there myself and learnt a lot from the people here, if you are willing to listen to the good advice you will recieve here, your fish and tanks will flourish after only a while...

    all of the best dude..

You dont get blue tiger barbs, the three main ones are plain tiger Barbs the albino/golden Tiger barbs and then the green one. You can mix them try to have at least three of each so it does not look uneven. Try and go for a total of 10-15 tiger barbs to help with the fin nipping of other fishes. And no dont leave the lights on the whole day I only have mine on from 17h00 till about 21h45 this is when I am home and it is only for viewing them.

If you feeding your fishes 3 times a day you need to up your water changes to at least 30 % per week to help getting rid of the nitrates.
