Does anybody know where i can get hold of a plastic 20mm non return valve, so that my sump filter do not overflow in case of a power interruption. I am staying on the westrand.

just drill a small hole in the pipe above the water line. Other wise try Effast.

Ok but how will this stop the water from flowing back into the sump filter.

As Henk says, it will break the siphon.

Alternately, there's a company called Waterlinx near DecorPark near Kya Sands that is a pool and jacuzzi supplier specialist. They may be able to assist.

Actually, now that I think further on this, a non-return valve isn't going to solve your problem!

When you install the valve, you need to install it to allow allow water to flow down to the sump. If the power turns off, it's still going to continue flowing down isn't it?

No Zoom... It only allows one way flow... Same principal as the airline tubing one way valve. The water will go up from the sump, through the valve but not be able to go in the reverse direction. It will definitely work. Remember there are 2 pipes to a sump. One in and one out. You only put the non return on the out pipe on the sump. The pipe from the pump to the display tank. The other side works on gravity, and will only drain till the top of the overflow. There is usually enough safety on a sump to contain this amount of water.

But that said, drilling the hole to break the syphon is a much easier and cheaper way of doing it.

Oh, ok, so you want to put the non return valve on the retunr pipe from the pump up to the tank.

Just raise the pipe above the water line.

post a pic of your overflow, those one way valves arent fail safe, they can stick open with kalk build up etc.

I am using a spraybar for the return and my inlet from the tank is high up with a hole if the power is off water flows into the sump without overflowing it

If you want to spend a bit of money you can buy an electronic stop valve it works of 12 volt from a transformer if the power turns of the valve closes pm me for a wiring diagram or insructions
