Hi, i need some help. My nitrate levels is to high and not getting it down. Realy need some advice now

What size is your tank
what stock do you keep
What and how often do you feed
how often and how much water do you change
what filtration do you have and how often do you clean it
how often do you vacuum your substrate
how long has the tank been running
what are the water parameters

 

Its either your water you are adding from your tap got high nitrate , to few w/c , overpopulated tank (ect oscar in a 10 gal )

Tank size 250L, stock: mollie, neon tetra, swordtail, widows, clown loach, pleco, flying fox, danios. Feed only once a day in morning, food type tetra prima, tetraMin, tetra tablets. 30% Water changes every 2 weeks. Filtration is a fluval 406, clean canister every month. About 2 years running now.

Maybe try a 30% water change weekly , should help at least a little bit .... Perhaps add some plant life ( stand to be corrected)

 

You need to do a 75% waterchange to get your nitrates down to 25, then do 30% changes for two days thereafter, your nitrates should be around 10 then, vacuum your substrate thoroughly. Thereafter you can probably do a 30% change once per week. Make sure your fish eat all the good in minutes and no food is left over. Keep checking your nitrates weekly.

No, you can use tap water with a declorinator such as Seachem Prime, just match the water temperature. Have you tested the nitrates in your tap water?

 

Your problem is with cleaning your filter every week.....

That's fairly high, but you can still use it, as recommended, your nitrate level will probably be around 20 which is still ok

No, once a month should be ok

 

And vacuum the substrate....

 

30% every 3 days will bring that down quick and back to safe .
