    Hi everyone,

    Always wanted a Tropical tank, so took "the plunge" about a month ago.

    Tank = 90cm (L) x 30cm (W) x 38cm (H)
    Capacity = 104L
    Heater = Resun Rising Heat RH9000 - 150W
    Air = Resun air pump - Air 4000 - 4,5L per minute, connected to 2 x air curtain hoses.
    Decorations = 3 x long plant, 1 x bushy plant, 1 x wood ornament , 1 x large fake rock with caves, meduim gravel, 1 x "shipwreck"
    Light = SERA Deep Sea 15W, 45cm.
    Lid = Standard plastic lid.
    Pump = Resun EF-600, 15W, 600 liter per hour.

    Fish:
    4 x Angel (Erpetoichthys Scalare)
    4 x Clown Loach (Botia Maracantha)
    3 x Silver Dollar (Metynnis Hypsauchen)
    4 x TinFoils (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii)
    1 x Pleco

    I found a nice shop in Centurion (Bazaruto Centre, South street) and the people are very helpful.

    Feel free to give me any advice and tips on the "configuration" as mentioned above.

    Blessings,
    Marius

    Welcome to TASA ... sounds like you have a good setup for a first tank .. BTW your fish selection will force a chronic bout of MTS. By the looks of things I see at least 2 more 4ft tanks in your near future.

    Hi! Welcome!
    BTW = by the way
    MTS = multiple tank syndrome, an incurable illness most of us are afflicted by! Any sensible person agrees that one tank is simply not enough! and ferdie was also implying that some of your fish are going to get too big for the whole crew to remain in your start-up for long! Wait for some more replies on your fish selection: I don't have enough experience to comment!

    LPS(local pet store) and very helpful never go well in the same sentence. Make a habit of using google before you buy anything. I know the impulse buys are hard to resist : ) If you keen on a fish, google it... If you willing to give it what it needs go buy it!!!! I also know the LPS, great service, great stock but always research before you buy, saved my a$$ multiple times.

    Point taken. Thanks for the advice.

    Being patient is the tough part. Research is a must. Glad I discovered TASA where I am assured of expert advice.

    welcome engelbma

    Some people are so polite.
    I think what f-fish is hinting is that your selection of fish will soon outgrow a 3foot hence getting more tanks and bigger tanks

    @engelbma I trust that you have now done some research on your stock list and realized that you have two maybe three points to consider:

    1) the LFS is a business, they will probably sell you stuff that you either do not need or will make you come back for more (we do have exceptions in ZA- chat to some of TASA's sponsors)
    2) compatibility (fish, plants, water, tank, temperature, diet and special needs) i.e. do your research
    3) each fish purchase should be seen as a long term investment - or get fish that have a short life expectancy

    As an example your Tinfoils -

    "Large individuals are silvery or golden yellow while alive with its dorsal fin red and caudal fin orange or blood-red. It grows up to 14 inches (35 cm) in length. Tinfoil Barbs have a lifespan of 8 to 10 years." source wikipedia

    or the Silver Dollar
    "It will grow to a maximum length of 14 centimeters (5.5 inches).", " Its maximum lifespan is more than 10 years.","Their diet is almost exclusively vegetarian and in captivity they will often eat all the plants in a tank." source wikipedia

    or the Clown Loach
    "Due to their potentially large size, a 60 to 100 gallon (230 to 380 litre) aquarium should be the minimum size used." source wikipedia

    @f-fish.

    Yip, seems like I will have to get a bigger tank in the near future :)

    Do LPS buy fish back if they get too big for your tank?

    To everyone else, thanks for the welcomes !!!!
