    Hi there

I used to be into Tropical Aquariums with my dad 10 - 12 years ago. Was a small kid then so my knowledge was not as much as it is now after reading this forum for 2 weeks. I helped with feeding and basic maintenance. We had one 54L and one 108L tank filled mostly with South East Asian and South American fish. I can't remember all of them but I can recall Angels, Black Neon tetras, Bronze cats, Flying Fox (my favorite), Harlequins to name a few.

My gf recently took over a big fish tank (215L) from a friend who couldn't have one anymore. So she took all that fish and some of her fish from her small tank at work and placed them into the big tank. Will get a list together of all the fish over the weekend/ There are a few incompatible fish in there but luckily so far no problems. 4 clown loaches, 6 tiger barbs (these 2 groups are like 1 happy family), 1 Angel fish, 2 sad Neon tetras, 2 bloody nose tetras, 1 red finned albino shark, 1 danio, 1 molly + others which I don't know the name of. Gonna test water quality etc over weekend and change water to get tank up to good standard.

I myself want a Mbuna tank. I asked my dad if I can start a Mbuna tank at home but NO is always the answer. I love the Malawi cichlids and hope to have a Mbuna tank sometime not too far in the future. In the mean time I will help out my gf and read on this great forum to get more knowledge.

If I may ask where are the good Aquarium shops in Cape Town? I know of Panorama pet store as I stay close to it and Sam's Aquirium is close to my gf and my dad used to buy most of our fish there.

    Welcome

Good that your family & GF are into fish. Makes things easier on a thousand levels.
I suupose 2 neons would be sad . Probably were more but are often snacks for other fish.

Over the weekend I helped my gf to clean the tank and replace some water. Did some "stocktaking" of the fish. I don't know all the species so I took photos. I call her fishtank the Charity tank as it is 2 tanks of fish combined which she saved from other people that didn't want fish anymore.

Here's what the tank consist of and please correct me if I get some species wrong and help me identify those I don't know:

    4 Clown loaches
    6 Tiger Barbs
2 Albino Corys (Don't know which species)
    2 male Swordtails
    1 Giant Safrin Molly
    1 Fancy Platie
    1 Black Molly
    2 Zebra Danio
    1 Leopard Danio
2 Gouramies (Don't know which species)
    2 Neon Tetras
    2 Runny Nose Tetras
    4 Koohli Loaches
    1 Giant Angelfish
    1 Albino Red Finned Shark
    1 Black Widow???
    1 Brittlenose catfish???

Temp is 25 - 26 degrees, safe amonia levels and PH of 6.3 - 6.4

Cleaned and water replaced. Rearranged some of the plants. The Angel fish look really grumpy afterwards and was often chasing the Blackwidow. Is this normal as it might have established new territory?

Hey Ice your tank looks good your plants look well established, quite a mix of fish there! That kuhli loach looks huge, does he come out of hiding often?

Thanks. The "Charity Tank" seems the be holding up for now. The plants seem to have no problem. Just a weekly clean up of some dead leaves. The Kuhli loaches are about 9cm. I only see the tank over weekends when I visit my gf and I hardly ever see the Kuhlis. One has a spot in one corner so I can see him hiding there during the day.

Spoke to my gf earlier about possibly selling/giving away some of the fish to make sure that things stay in order peace wise and biological wise.
