    Hi there!

After buying our 2yo son a smallish tank with a 2 fantails, 2 comets and a black moor, we really fell in love with the idea of setting up our own tropical community aquarium. Got our first fish today - 6 neons, 2 very small angels, a golden apple snail and a featherfin catfish...joined by a very excited fighter fish. I know lots of people will probably crucify our choices, but as they are all still miniature they seem quite happy! The tank is quite big and we seem to be searching for our fish at the moment!

I have read up a lot on freshwater shrimp - especially the red cherry shrimp. Are they available in South Africa? If so, where does one find them? I want one so bad that I'll consider keeping an additional tank for it!

Glad that I came across this site - love the forums! :p

    Hi Huppelkind, welkom.

Very sad to tell you but all shrimp is blacklisted unless you want to keep a marine tank.
Some fish do learn to get along but then again you may run into some trouble.
Hope you enjoy it here. Anything you hear from your pet store you can come and double check here.

    Hey Huppel..

Welcome to TASA... Watch that Betta with the angels. They can become pretty feisty together... (That being said, I have a fully grown male betta + a fully grown male angel together in complete harmony)... just giving you the headsup...

Yeah... photo's are a good fix..

Thanks for all the posts everyone! Sad to hear about the shrimp - I love all the funny critters - snails, eels, invertabrates....and unfortunately the catfish died during the night - no idea why. Maybe just the shck of a new tank - all the others are seem pretty happy and the one angel and betta even come to the side of the tank when I'm there. The snail is my favourite though.

Hi there, sorry to hear about your catfish thats a shame, i had one and they seem to get very stressed when being moved about maybe thats why it died.

Anyways welcome to TASA you will get stacks of good advice here.

    Welkom Huppelkind.
Did you use the drip-method to acclimatise your new fish?
