Got an idea in my head and just going to go with it. Going to start up 4x 240lt malawi tanks in my home. Found a place I fit them in. Just finished installing 2x 2500 lt water tanks around the house and they are already about a quater full after the rains and our area is expecting more. Want to try stock haplochromis and aulonocara(some peeps refer to them as peacock cichlids) species. Wife has already said yes, so my workshop is going to start making the stands and will hopefully send them off for powder coating this week. If anyone has pics of haps and aulonocara setups, please post your pics here. Would like to hear your ideas, info and see some setups. Hope you all had an awsome weekend.

Exciting stuff! Just please be careful with the rain water and also the location of the water tanks you have set up. Ensure that it is no-where near a downpipe, the roof or anywhere else where dirty water could make it's way into the tanks. How are you planning on ensuring that no insects or anything get in there to lay eggs etc?

sounds good man but where have you found space in your place for more tanks? What did you have to get rid of, the snakes, the couch or SWAMBO?:p:bigsmile:

You going to need something to buffer your water up in the PH range. Rainwater is acidic ie not what you want for malawis

I'm thinking about getting another 500lt water tank and pumping the water from the 2 2500lts through a filter and then treat the water to bring it up to the correct ph. I'm going to use a very fine shale which I'm going to collect from the beach and use sand stones(cleaned and boiled before it goes into the tank.) as a buffer in the tanks. My filling up of the tanks will come from the municipal water supply and the treated rain water I will use for my water changes. The shale I've used before in my very first malawi tank I had. Its bit courser than sea sand and alot finer than crushed coral or shell and wont end up being sucked up into filters and syphoned up.

Do you think this setup will be okay?

Thanks for the comments and more suggestions are more than welcome.

And Schloshd1 the snake tanks in the corner are going to be shifted to another room.
