    Hi guys:blink1:

Was looking at my 3ft that stands on my DIY cabinet and it actually looks ridiculous.
Reason for this the cabinet is 70cm off the ground and the tank is only 38 high.

In other words it looks really odd....

    I decided to get a quote on a new tank. 920 (L) X 325 (W) X 500 (H) 6mm
Thickness, base as well. Was quoted R600 +-.
Includes the glass sliders, overflow box and braced.

    My questions are:
    1. Will the height cause my cabinet to be top heavy? - Is level and doesn't rock at all
    2. Is 6mm to thin?
    3. Is the overflow necessary? - Note, I don't want equipment in my tank and seems to be one of the best
    4. Good price?
    5. Is this an odd shape tank?

Thanks for your time guys, answers and tips will be much appreciate!

With that height i woulod feel more comfortable with 8mm atleast.
Why dont you go 100mm x 500mm x 500mm in 10mm glass, or should this tank fit on the existing stand ?
I would go with overflow, but this is not to good for planted tanks because of CO2.

Must fit on an existing stand. Not going to planted route. 8mm does sound more on the safe side

i would think considering the short length of 900mm, 6mm will be ok, as with longer tanks like 1200mm there is bigger possibility of the tank flexing or bending, with a tank as short as 900mm, i doubt you will have that problem.

What is the stand made from?

You will need a minimum of 8mm for the sides with Eruo bracing and more than likly will need a 10mm base. this only gives a safety factor of 3.8, Ideally 10mm sides would be nice but 8mm can work with bracing.

Id go with an overflow but its a matter of prefrence

25mmX25mm square tubing. You can view the stand here and the finished one here

The current tank i have is only 4mm with 6mm bracing lol. No problems since bracing was added

The stand should be sufficient and with the wood base you got.
I'd almost say you could use thinner glass.
If you feel comfortable using the 6 mm and put bracing on the base and top it should be ok.
I doubt the tank will fall over from the stand.

If you visit tonight dude you will get an idea of the quality of the tank that is getting built for you and weather your stand will be able to handle it. But I wont go anything lower than 8mm for the glass I will show you the difference between 6mm and 8mm and it is pretty massive. Rather just pay a bit extra and get that extra thickness. Even Carl urged me to go 8mm for my size tank though I think my tank is bigger then yours right?

Also if all else fails get a stand made the one I got built is the perfect height for viewing and working in the tank so I dont need to stand on something to reach the bottom.

This will be the difference in size. I tried to do this as close as possible. Sketch is 17.5 smaller than real life.

The 500 will look much better. Might be narrow for that height but no a problem.
Decided i am going to go the planted route again. Some nice high plants
Won't be doing any Co2. Just the PFP and chemicult

the higher the tank, the thicker the glass needs to be.

Tank has been ordered, should be here before saturday.

I want to go the planted route. Can anyone suggest nice tall growing plants?

Also what fish should i keep in it?
Tank is going to be placed where there will be lots of movement so shy fish isn't an option.
