Not sure I guess Exclusive Books or CNA would maybe stock it. If not I will buy the first copy before placing an order.

I think we should all try to support this, as these hobby magazines don't really have the kind of support like YOU magazine, etc. And without people buying the magazine it will just be another one that disapears after a few months...

It also seems that the invitation is open for hobbyists to contribute. Which is great, because there are plenty people on this forum that can help out there!

looks like its a bi-monthly thing, R21 per copy for a year subscription, not bad, if it hits shelves in a store near me, i'll support it, i dont generally like online transfers for future delivery, then thought crosses my mind - what if something happens and they don't deliver anymore copies, how will i get refunded etc etc. but in a shop, hard copy, in my hands, i'll buy it :)

i see we're even listed in the online forums link, cool

Totally agree - there was a japanese anime fan magazine called Otaku which lasted just over 2 years then GONE ( I lost 6 months of subscription)!!!! and they had a couple of hundred subscribers - including overseas.. The prob with local specialist magazines is that there is just not enough people to make it a paying proposition.. So I for one WILL subscribe..and hope that it lasts.

So come guys - it is less than the cost of a pleco - for a years subscription..

i feel the more ppl that support them with subscriptions the longer it might last , the start of costs in my mind is one of the biggest costs so if more ppl pay in advance it will stand a better chance of lasting and after they get a good base amount of ppl going it will hopefully grow, and after all whats R130 when it comes to the rest of the money i spend on fish

New paper-media magazines in this day and age simply won't do the job, especially in niche markets.

Going digital is the better, faster, cheaper way to go about it and you can do a much better job.

Check www.gamecca.co.za for an idea of what I mean.

I can honestly tell you that they need about 25 000 subscriptions to make it work, and that simply isn't going to happen.

Tried to make payment for the subscription using the Pay-Fast link... (I'm assuming it's a similare system to PayPal.)

The link didn't work... as the SA Fishkeepers ID is not recognised by Payfast.

So SA fishkeepers have my order, but no payment. Now to see if they pick it up and contact me with instructions how to make payment. Otherwise I'll watch out at CNA etc to buy copy. I tend to agree with Sauron.. I would MUCH prefer a digital type copy that I can read off pc.

(at least I can sit in the office and read then and as the boss walks in quickly change the screen--- ALT + TAB is my best friend on TASA)

While I agree it's great to support such initiatives there is no way I would give my hard-earned money to a startup publication for a years subscription at the moment. No matter what they sell it for, the majority of a magazine's income is from advertising, and in the current climate there is a serious shortage of advertisers. This would be especially true of hobby / non-essentials suppliers. Call me a pessimist, but I can almost guarantee it won't make it past a few months.

Sorry guys, but I agree they should be going digital. While setting up a site is costly, it is far less than printing with real ink on real paper, then delivering it in real trucks to real shops.

So wat you are saying is it great to support it - but you wont..

For a measly 130 I think support by TASA members should be mandatory

Zafgak, I never said I wouldn't buy it, just that I wouldn't give a year's worth in advance. I wouldn't take out a contract at a gym for the same reason. I just don't believe there are enough fish enthusiasts in South Africa to support a print publication, either through subscription or the adverts directed at them.

i think there are actually, just like there is a magazine for angling and cycling and gardening etc, there's a huge fan base, its all about marketing and the attention they get

sell it at bookstores, the LFS's with big names (ask them for a small stand's space near the counter, some supermarkets like spar or even cna, and you'll see your fanbase crawling out of the woodworks

I think it's about bl&&^y time we had a fish keepers magazine in SA to be honest. I know there's a few in England, but hellish expensive to get out here.

And every "fishing" magazine I have seen in shops has to do with fish catching.... I don't want to catch my fish.. I want to keep em.

I agree with Zaf.. we should all support it... (BUT this means less TASA time as we will all be reading magazines?)

Hey, who knows, maybe your tank set up could be viewed here on TASA and land up being published in the magazine! And the cost is really not that hectic... I mean Men's health is about R30 p month isn't it?

Dung - sorry if that came across as a slight against you - I may have got my words a bit wrong...

I just think that if the members think how much they spend on their fish for a year - R130 generally will not even make a dent..

Is it not worthwhile to take the risk and at least know that you did your bit to try and keep it going ????????
