Now the stand looks little bit better, rustic feeling. The smaller tank is ready should start cycling soon.

Do you use the "Jack" to cycle the tank? Or did you just try to match the colour? LOL

Isn't it for use while watching the cycle process? :)

Looking good. The HMF type filter idea might be a good one for a fine substrate like that and the small baby shrimp. I'm thinking of maybe doing the same, but afraid the sand would still get through and damage the pump impeller as mine is closer to dust than to sand.
Do I need a bigger bottle for cycling my 3ft tank ?

Bigger bottle of Jack? Always, you can never have enough Jack. And it won't harm to take your time with the Jack... Or cycling the tank...

I think the fine sand will eventually find its way trough the filter matte but you can install a plastic barrier between the matte and the substrate. i have seen some of the guys on the internet take a piece of that very bendy rulers or piece of ice cream tub and cut a piece the same size as your matte and just put it on the inside of the glass before the matte. It will keep the sand on the aquarium side.

lol, i agree bigger bottle is better is always better.. that specific bottle is for my collection. Second edition of master distiller series.

    Quick update,
Added ada soil to the front of the tank. Apparently the ground cover I wanted will not grow in sand. Some ground cover added (not sure what it is called) have some other plants in my DIY pot and it is already peeking. Also don't know what it is called but stays rather small and will snip and re-plant as it grows from the pot. Was told this is the best way. Not sure what else i can plant that will fit a small aquarium (low tech) Not so sure about the layout still pondering might move a few things. wanted to create a natural hideout for the shrimp.

The plants from the pot looks allmost like Hemianthus Micranthemoides.
