    Hi

Planning on setting up a community tank with some schooling fish only.

Had these colours in mind red,blue/green,yellow and then some of my Endlers

    Max fish size 5cm.

    Tank will be well planted.

For red I had some of these in mind

    Ember tetra
    Microrosboras brigittae

    Yellow

    Lemon Tetra
    Hyphessobrycon callistus
    Serpea tetra

    Blue or green.
? cant find any small blue ones.

Any other suggestions for these colours would be very helpfull especially the yellow and blue/green ones

Thought of making it a all rosbora tank but I am not sure you get them in all these colours and their sizes.

Please do not suggested a fish you know I would not be able to source somewhere.

    Thanks in advance

Hey Dolphin can you PM me the price of some of those M Erythromicron??

And Vis, Serpae tetras are reddish Orange rather than yellow! They are considered to be fin nippers, but i've been keeping them for over a year, and not had any probs!!

Lemon Tetras are pretty but very subtle, so best in a largish shoal of say 10 or so??

As for Blue, generally neons are your brightest! Cochus tetras are quite stunning when in good colour, but again are considered to be aggro fin nippers!

Maybe for a bit of interest, a few sparkling Gouramis may be suitable, but i don't know if they are hard to keep? I don't think they are?? They have lovely subtle Pearlescent blue spots which can really glow at times!

Also, have a look at Paraguay tetras. Dolphin has had a lot recently, and they look like stunning little fish! I was sorely tempted, but don't have the tank space at the moment!

Hope that gives you some good ideas??

    Cheers
    Big G!

    Thanks Big G
Will go and look into these. Helps if you have a general directions to look in rather than poking in the dark.

Hi Dolphin would these be possible? Looking only to get them the end of Feb or so because I still need to setup the tank.

    Microrasbora Kubotai
    Cochus tetras
    Microrosboras brigittae

Big G those Cochus Tetras was just what I was looking for. Hopefully the Rasboras would be to small and fast enough not to be caught.

all those are available, however I must reiterate the caution on cochu tetras as they can be quite fiesty and I've found that microrasbora stay in hiding amongst the plants if they are harassed...

the paraguay tets are little bast*Ds - nip at all the fish even those larger than them...

there's a tetra from peru thats very nice - blue... I think its called a powder blue tetra??? I'll check and let you know.

but at the same time consider only keeping the microrasbora species and then creating a biotope that would suite them...

Pseudepiplatys annulatus, they are pretty but weird looking fish. Looks like those cars with the jet engines they break land speed records with. Have their afterbuners on all the time:p

The Microrasboras seem the have very similar biotypes than a lot of tetras. The only thing about them is that their blues are not that great( or may it be only the photos I have seen?)

Those powder blue ones sounds interesting, let me know if you find any info on them.

It is not that I do not like them. Just that some pics never do the fish justice like the endlers for example.

Might have to pop by you to have a look at them when I am in JHB.

Well for guppies...... maybe if all else fail. Unless blue endlers.

Those peru tetras are more towards red then blue I think.

Boraras brigittae and Microrasboras brigittae (Same fish right?)

What about Microrasbora nana for a blue/green?

The m erythromicron actually needs different water parm then the other rasboras. They need a ph 7.8 and up while the other needs more 7 down.

    Will definately come by.

    yes

mine are all okay 7.6 - 7.8 and have been maintained for several months with those parameters... then I have another tank with only m Erythromicron at 5.5 and they're also fine in there - infact those are more blue than those at 7.6

    nana is also available
