So Christmas came a bit late for me last year. Been trying to get money together for a new larger tank to hopefully have 4 rays in for life. Had some real bad luck with my car breaking down twice and costing me my budget for new tank and new pair of rays.
Came across a 2.6x1.1x.7 tank with a cracked base, was trying to negotiate reasonable price for it when guy said just come pick it up and take it. So got tank for free minus the 10 people I had to hire to load it.
Have built a frame and getting ready for big move.
Will post picks of planned move and details hopefully pick up some advise on how to go about it

Nice welding @top dog, how much is replacement glass? Are you going to remove cracked piece or place new piece on top?

Hey all thanks for encouragement will answer question and stuff later just want to post pictures of my 2 biggest obstacles.
Tank is too long to fit threw my front door and too big and heavy for my wood deck I have at back door so we going threw a window in my spare room. Window is 1.5 meter above the ground so it is going to be a challenge C801291C-3829-4F0F-9BF0-6AFC3E1F2E59.jpeg

My next major issue is that I have 2 1.8m tanks running where the new beast is going to stand. Two 1.8m tanks need to move to spare room but can not do this till Big tank is threw window, threw spare room and into lounge. Then I can only start moving and setting them back up for 2 fish residents BE76A2AE-E790-41E2-BE2D-97C7A6FDD7BC.jpeg
Tv is going to mount on top of new tank some how

    Thanks for looking

    Sounds like a logistical nightmare.

I think they key is going to be have plenty of people to help.
You don't want to be manoeuvring the tank through the window only to find you are a few hands short mid way through the process.

    @top dog ,

    Go chat to Mo
They have got special jacks to help move and lift big tanks, he might lend them to you or charge a small fee for the day /weekend but it helps a lot so just check

between me and tank builder we are hoping to just do a patch job over the crack, remove overflow drill new piece to match existing holes replace the over flow seal it all up. really hoping to avoid stripping tank down. Full sheet of 12mm glass is R2200 so glass price not a major cost.

@maria i think crumpets mom hates me still

i often lie to my self and say: "my fish tanks help me relax"
really seem to be causing alot more stress lately
agreed totally , many hands make light work. I am thinking of trying to hire 10-12 casual laborers and have a few friends around for extra help if needed. sadly my biggest reservation about this is security, having 12 random people in my house worries quite a bit so been speaking to moving companies to try find labor and safety but it is proving to be very costly

have thought about that but sadly most of big heavy lifting is on grass witch makes trolley useless.

shuh!! first of all WHAT A DEAL!!! thats is an awesome tank to score. second the job you did on that stand... AMAZING!!
so have you found a way in the house though? is it just a matter of heavy lifting? else I guess James will have to do some stripping and rebuilding inside the house!! is that not an option?

good luck and keep us posted!

    thanks Maria
hopefully all the wondering up and down with a tape measure works out, think my neighbors are starting to worry i have finally lost the plot.
to add more drama to my life, the tank was left in the sun the whole day yesterday and the base has cracked further. James sounded far less stressed than myself witch was good to here.

    thanks you,
going into the house on friday, taken the day off, have whole weekend to make more plans should the need arise. James does not want to break tank up. wants to work out what to fix once in place. so going to be a adventure

Oh @top dog ... we all crazy and we have all lost the plot to some extent.. just some worse than others!!

If James isn't stressed then don't stress about it either... moving it is enough to stress about

Yup, it can seem like a huge task.
I remember when I moved over to my current tank it seemed daunting and it was much simpler than your project.
Try not to over think it.
Am sure it will all go fine.
