Hi all.
My name is Darryn and I am from Parklands in Cape Town.
I am new to fish keeping, having only really started about 3 months ago.
I have 2 tanks (for now ...... LOL)
100L, pool filter and river sand substrate, Aquaclear 200 HOB filter, 150W heater, unfortunately no lighting yet (am in the process of building a custom canopy for T5 tubes), have recently put in a sponge filter that will be used in a future breeding tank. Inhabitants: 8 bronze Corys, a pair of Zebra Danios, 3 Harlequins and 2 AN Other fish (will still try and ID them). This tank is destined to be a planted community tank.
30L, QT tank at the moment, small HOB filter, 50W heater, no substrate. Have 2 small BN plecos and another 2 Danios in there at the moment.
My aim is to fully plant the 100L and make it a true community tank. I also would like to experiment with breeding different species of fish as my knowledge increases. I have a particular interest in Corys and other catfish.

My Corys spawned on Sunday and are currently hatching. Completely unintentional, so they caught me by surprise. Still learning what I need to hatch and raise the fry. Hopefully I will have a few survivors.

If you like cats, get one or two Oto's (Otocinclus affinis)
Small little buggers, cute, active.
Great plant cleaners as well.

BTW, Where did you get the river sand?

Post pics of your two fish in the ID section.

The river sand I bought from nurseries. Was pretty cheap as well. I think it was about R20 for 7,5kg (will check if I still have the slip).Takes a LONG time to rinse though. I am sure that I rinsed it about 10 times before the water ran clean. You do get different shades as well, from light beige to a rich reddish colour. Depends where you but it from.
