    Hi all

My name is Jaco and I'm a new member to the forum. I'm not a newbie to aquarium keeping. Started about 22 years ago with fresh water spesializing in Discus and Angels. I gave that up or took a break due to work constraints for about 5 years. I started about 8 years ago but on the marine side of things. I currently have a 800l sps dominted marine tank.

I have always wanted to go back to discus keeping. I have extra aquariums standing around so why not start now.

Things have changed so much in freshwater fish keeping that it seems like I have to start from scratch, so I guess I'm a newbie when it comes to fresh water. Lookking forward in learning from the gurus on the site.

    Hi @Jaco Pretorius

    Welcome to the forum

I think the products available have changed/increased, equipment has modernized but at the end of the day, the principles of fish keeping havent changed

Good luck with the new project and look forward to updated

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

The basics (water chemistry etc) is the same
You will probably find there has been a lot of progress with equipment.

@David Kusner ... that is very true but unfortunatly... what hasnt got more expensive?
I remember buying the Garden and Home magazine for like... R3.00 if not less and you had good reading material from the first to the last page
Today.. I dont even know anymore...but its probably over R50.00 and its 90% adverts

However, like a lot of other things, if you shop around and with a bit of DIY you can achieve a lot at fairly reasonable prices
