Hi all, Awesome forum site. I would never have thought that an Aquarium Forum would be this excellent. Even better than sports related forums.
I am joining in the hope to sell my fishtank to someone who will appreciate it. .....just need to get to 20 posts
    Kind Regards,
    Martin

    Hi Martin and welcome.

The people around here do not like it when new guys join just to get or sell something and never contribute to
the forum. So a friendly warning, you will get some comments.
Or you can help by selling your stuff dirt cheap, thus way contributing to the community :)

Hi Vis, Thanks for the reply and advice. My intention is actually to sell it very cheaply - someone will probably get an excellent bargain. I am simply hoping to sell it to the 'right' people.....and not someone that is going to try-their-luck with the fish tank and end-up killing all the fish.

There is a few people here that is the 'right' people.

Tell us a bit more of yourself and also what setups you have.
How long have you been into keeping tropical fish and update your location maybe on your profile.

Why do you want to sell out of this awesome hobby?

Updated my Profile. Thanks. Essentially need to space since the arrival of the little bundle of joy (terro). Fish tank currently takes up quite a bit of space.
We are not exactly the best 'fish' people - but, we seem to have a fairly stable tank.... meaning that we very seldom lose any fish. Having said that, we do not have many fish - perhaps we only have tough survivors . Very seldom experiment (just clean and feed), add fish or plants - the fish tank is 'just-there'..... I cannot really even tell you what fish are in it - but, to give it a bash.... 2 Rainbow Sharks, 1 'horse fish' (bottom feeder - long body with horse's face), 1 Algae eater, 2 orange fish with long bottom wiskers:rolleyes:.... used to be 3? - and a few small snails (that manage to stay away from the Rainbow sharks that see the snails as delicacy)
Anyway - the idea is to sell the whole lot - tank, fish, accessories etc, etc.
We are based in Paulshof, Gauteng.

Hmmm odd bunch of fish ... so it is an almost 3ft with stand ? Got any lights pumps etc ?
You might get R400 - 600 depending who really needs it - time of the month etc. But yes more details would help your cause. But you will have to promise that once your kid gets to 4 years old you and he will get a real fish tank (no goldfish bowls) and join the forum again.

Cool welcome man it sounds like a good setup. Those fish are pretty hardy .

Sure you can't keep it and learn more on its upkeep here? It will only become easier and more fun as you learn....

    How big is the tank?

No chance will I sell for R500... I was thinking more in terms of R2,500. I originally padid R4,500 for the tank alone.
The tank is complete - pumps, heater, lights, Filters.

Now you see a picture makes all the difference, it is not a plate glass tank but an import ... Yeah you could get 2k not sure you will get it on the forum but worth a try ... must agree - keep it.

Okay - thanks for the feedback. If I struggle to 'sell' the complete package, then I might offer my fish up for adoption and then 'store' the tank....... I assume that I might get some takers on this forum. Admittedly the fish are not expensive or huge or special, but - I definitely would like to see them survive with a new owner.

They are nice tanks... that was exactly the same as the fist tank I had. (THe older members on the forum will recall what happened to it!!)

I bought it second hand for R1k! That included pump, filter, lights, airpump, substrate etc... so I seriously doubt you will get R2k for it.

The second hand market for tanks is TERRIBLE... and I would be VERY surprized if you get even close to half of what you want.

You prob wont be able to sell it for 2K,if it was 300-400Litre then you would have had no problem with that price,i have a second hand 100Litre i bought for R500.

Okay - Thanks for the comments.... I cannot say that I am very excited with the comment - with the TERRIBLE secondhand market. Something like Bicycles - effectively halves in price when riding out of the dealer?
How would you suggest that we make this into a spectacular tank? Without spending a fortune....
OR, would there be people willing to adopt the fish?

Ah ... guppies ... loads and loads of guppies with real plants - love to see the whole tank move .. add some vallis, moss and driftwood ... all should be good. Not sure about the adopt a fish thing - get fish pics on the page and you might get lucky.

The second hand market is crazy... I bought a 2m tank for only R2500 and that included everything, sump, filter media, heaters, the uplift pump and the 2m tank in a cabinet with canopy and lights in. I just bought sand for the substrate

So yes good luck in selling your tank. I would also recommend setup with something easy like colorful guppies and allot of plants.

A well planted tank with nice rocks and bog wood, and a few easy fish (Guppies, Danios, Mollies, etc) will have a low maintenance. You'd just have to keep up th 10% water change once a week, and maybe a bigger one with filter clean every 2 months.

Keep easy going plants and you don't have to go the fert route, high lights, special substrate... etc

Also, if you keep your eyes on the forum, evey one in a while someone gives away free fish or plant clippings. (I've opted to give away plant clippings when I prune... PM me your details ifyou interested, and I'll put you on my list.)
