I know this is a tropical forum and I have Goldfish - but it is nice to talk to people who are from the same country as I am - and I am keeping them in tropical temperature!

I have too much fancy goldfish in a 245liter heavily planted natural setting tank.

My main interest here is in the planted tanks(I am a plant fanatic doing succulents, bonsai, hippeastrum, orchids, air plants and many more.) and the general care of fish.

I am not a noob when it comes to tropical fish - I had three tanks about ten years ago filled with tropical fish. One was a mixed tank, one Malawi and one for discus.

    Glad to find this forum.

    My planted tank.

    Tank April 2011 b.jpg

This my planted tank two weeks ago.

I keep the Goldfish heavily fed to prevent them from eating my plants - they get many peas to curb their hunger for greens and they are mad about it.

There is a fernlike plant in the left hand side of the tank that makes little plants that floats - that one is no more but a lot of babies floating. I have replaced it by Vallisnera. The rest of the plants are left in peace by the goldfish. On the right hand side I have replaced it by Potamogeton schweinfurthii(Breeblaarfonteinkruid)

I am still trying to get Java ferns established on the rocks and I am looking for that moss-like plants to establish in the tank - but I can't find any here in Rustenburg.

Great tank - love that Black oranda.... Super head developement...

Noticed you seem to use a subsoil beneath your gravel substrate... What is it and how happy are you with it? Always interesting to know...
