    Hi All

New member - just following the request to introduce myself.

Have decided after many years of abstinence, to go back to the world of keeping fish. Been doing a lot of reading, and now find that I have to farm bacteria, and the fish are just a pleasant sidetrack. :cheesy:

So - I have a tank at home, fish-less, waiting for the Cycle to take effect. Measuring Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates on a daily basis (still 0 after 4 days) and waiting........

Greetings @BatManv8v - Things have changed a bit over the years but there are plenty of people here who are willing to help. What are the specs of your setup and what is the intention regarding fish, plants etc. Also, post pics as soon as possible.

They have changed somewhat it seems - and after reading for the last 2 weeks, realised how many mistakes I made in my previous attempts. However, it doesn't mean I am not going to make any more.....

My setup is simple - a Juwel Vision 260 - pretty much standard right now.

I have aqua-scaped the tank (just to make it look pretty). In terms of fish and plants - the jury is still out on what exactly I want. Initial interest was a community tank, but I am being drawn more towards perhaps keeping a species tank - perhaps cichlids or discus - still not sure. The main thing right now (in my mind) is get the cycle going.

    Hi there BatMan8v! :ciao:

Found myself in the same boat having recently gotten back into the hobby. Definitely quite daunting at first, but you'll get the hang of it, and this forum will prove invaluable!

260l is a nice starting size. Check with the Discus folk regarding tank size requirements as your tank might be a bit small for them. What type of cichlids are you interested in?

    Hi and welcome to TASA.

@manicmonkey I believe he was being sarcastic, he meant that you have to keep bacteria alive to keep fish alive.

    Spot on Firefly..... :p

@MarcHawke I haven't really given too much thought to getting down to particular Cichlids - what attracts me to them (at this stage) is the way they care for their young...
