Currently a Setup I am working on, its a 90L top view setup im going after, still a couple of stuff that need to go in, still need to stock it with fish,

Going to add “cold” water fish, system is heated but only to 20 degrees C.

Currently just getting the system cycled, Did use some water change water from another tank to help it out a little.

Not sure on the fish ill be stocking, I was thinking goldfish but I want plants in my tank, so I don’t think I’m going to add them in here.

Feel free to drop me suggestions on fish to stock it with

    Plants current in the system

    1x Java Moss ball
10x Vallis stems ( still need some more vallis tho )

    Substrate

    10kg pool filter sand

    Fertilizer

    Root tabs

    Filtration

1x large sponge filter connected to a 4.5w airpump

    Heating

    1x 250w heater set to 20C

    Water volume

    80L

Cool! Sounds like an interesting project

90L too small for goldfish i’d say but off the top of my head smaller fish that may like those temps:
    - paradise fish
    - danios
    - White Cloud Mountain minnows
    - celestial pearl danios
    - guppies/ Endlers
    - hillstream loaches (if high flow)

I think common goldfish the tank might be to small yea or some of the other goldfish too, but I was thinking

    Lionhead 1-2
    Ranchu 1-2
Bubble eye ( possibly more suitable for the size )

I was thinking of the other fish, but you won’t really see them from a top view tank. Especially with the water surface constantly breaking

Black. Mollies would also create a really cool effect - shadows swimming around. But i think their min temp is 22, rather than 20.

    I like the swordtail idea!

Variatus plattys, perhaps also an option? The plattys I have prefer tropical temps but believe variatus could do 20C @Zuraki ?

Yea the reason for the 20c is because it is an outside “pond” effect with 3 of those next to eachother creating a 240L water volume system.

Heating it more than 20c with where it is at (under shade 24/7) during the winter is going to be a pain, and not only that its going to cost quite a bit heating it more, as temps drop to close to 0C in my area.

When the system is complete its going to be an 800-850 L system in total, this is going to take some time tho.

This might actually not be a bad idea. 22C might not be too bad to heat it to, but there is no way ill be able to heat my complete setup to tropical temps

Or it will be possible, but during winter it might fluctuate quite a bit, due to the temp drops we have.

Fish will be fine with the temp fluctuations. I heat my tanks to 20 degrees. Winter is not issue at 20 degrees. Summer the temps are all warmer, on some days reaching 26 or 27 but mostly sitting at about 22 - 24.

As for the fish - I keep celestial pearl danios, emerald rasbora and naked rasbora. Recently added odessa barbs - all these fish are from Myanmar, all prefer cooler water

Yea thats what I meant, I can’t go throwing in discus for example, or some of the other more “sensitive” fish. Ill need something hardier.

The fish you listed will do good in a cooler setup, with fluctuations.

For now I’m still cycling the setup, so I’ll wait for some more suggestions during the week and next weekend ill pop to the store or buy from the community (prefer option 2) and grab some fish.

If you go with celestials do not buy from a store unless you plan to breed. Store fish will be dead in 2 or 3 months, locally bred celestials are far hardier. The only time I buy from a store is to get new genes into my setup, I breed the store bought ones and then move them to their own tank until they die. I then raise the fry and once at 4 months I move those in with my stock.

Yea, I use to breed danios, but that was in an indoor setup so that I can control the lights ext, not sure how they will do in an outside setup

Use to do the same in my garage, 40L tanks 10 females, 2-3 males, and I had containers that I made that they use to lay the eggs in, so made it simple to remove the eggs.

Lights on a timer and you are golden

Definitely gonna do some danios I feel like then, cause I want to add some cherry shrimp as well, see how they do in the outdoor setup, might heat the water a little more to around 22C tho

Okay so, I went against everything I said and I got endlers for the setup,

I added some water from my other tanks to avoid a new cycle, didn’t add any filter media tho but believe the water will suffice for the time being.

Only added 6 endlers to the tub system

Thinking I might work on a line as soon as I have enough, really enjoy working on breeding a line/strain.

    Nice!
6 Endlers in a 90L would be just fine for a fish-in cycle.

Side note: Endlers can clear a 5.5cm gap

Luckily only lost 1, dropped the water level lower now to about 8cm
