Hi...this is my first post. Just wanted to know which tank you would recommend for a lounge setup. We just moved and the only tank I could bring along was my Jebo R338 tank with a few malawis in it. I know they are "cramped up" in there, so want to go for a new tank. I can go up to a space of 1.5 meters, but thought price wise to get a 1.2m.

    Regards:wondering:

    Welcome to TASA!!

My opinion would be to get a Jebo!! I have had a jebo for 6 years with absolutely no problems!! :) They are usually a bit more expensive but they look nicer that the Juwel aquariums!!

Thats just my opinion!! The final decision is up to you!! :)

    Welcome to TASA.
I'd personally go with the Jewel.
Manufactured in Germany with good glass and black silicone.
Personally I think that it's a much better build.

I agree with wizard! The Juwell tanks are superb, but generally are rather expensive! I was looking into a vision 450, but just couldn't afford or justify the R13500 price tag, and that was the cheapest I found it at! Some places wanted R15000 to R18000 for the 450!Which juwell were u looking at specifically? All are good but when compared to the likes of a jebo or boyu, I'm not sure they are worth twice as much? I have found a few jebo and boyu 1.5's for around R5000 to R6500! Quite a difference! I'm sure that at the end of the day the juwel will last longer before looking awful, but I guess its a simple question of economics??That's my 2cents worth!Cheers! Big G!

Welcome welcome, I'm a new member myself and I am stuck between the same rock and hard place between these two tanks. So far money money is going towards the Jebo, simply because I prefer the curved glass, although the Juwel has a higher volume if I'm not mistaken, 350L according to the site, and the Jebo 219 only 285L.

That said the Juwel does look really good despite the joints. Also the Jebo's can be purchased without the stand/cupboard unit saving you a bit of cash if you all ready have a nice looking table or are planing to wall mount it.

I currently have a 2ft tank with the same style canopy as the Jebo and I must say it is very convenient, I can't comment on the Juwel so I'd rather not.

    >Juwel Rio 300
    >Jebo R219 (and R2 Range)

Anyone with some pics of their setups of the the 2 tanks?

The Juwel tank is probably the better quality option, but also more than likely double the price.

Also they often come with crappy internal filters from what I've seen, which leads to even more cost.

why dont you just a buy a tank from a LFS...the standard ones with wood stand and canopy. in my oppinion it looks a lot nicer than those "factory" made ones...also a 1.5m will set you back about R6500 anyway. same cost as 1.2m Juwel or Jebo (sorry dont know which is which).

I'm of the exact opposite opinion, the factory made ones look much better.

    Different strokes...

I'm with SauRoN, buying one from your LFS always has costs like filters, heaters, lights and what not, by the time you've added them up it comes close to a factory one's prices but with the convenience of an all in one package and the a better looking set up. Thats my experience anyway...

I tend to disagree!! If you know exactly what you want, the custom built ones you buy in the wooden stands and with wooden canopies look much much better! And on top of that, they wind up being about half the price of the Juwel or the Jebo. Get one with a sump. Better filtration than a normal canister filter and much better than the standard crap the manufactured tanks come with.

You can hide all the heaters and pumps and stuff in the sump, so you have more space in the tank for decor/plants.

You can get the full package for around R8000 instead of the R12000 and upwards of the manufactured tanks.

BUT if forced to choose, I'd go Juwel. The build quality is superb. I have a jebo and it's a piece of rubbish.

Maybe its a case of me being under for my factory option and over quoted for my "custom" option. But I've been shopping around of late and the price difference between the options was very small.

Saying that the factory option was a Jebo which is a lot cheaper than the Juwel, but the custom option didn't come with the neat wooden stand canopy; which I agree does look good if you find a nice set.

    ------
I'm seeing a trend that the Jebo tanks are sucky? Any particular reasons? Cause its a big investment and buying an lump of expensive glass is just not cool...

In terms of visual appeal, I prefer the rounded glass and modern shaped canopies of the Jebo (and similar tanks) over the wood finish, but that comes down to me being me.

Hello there - I have a Juwel 1.2m - also in the lounge. The tank in my biased opinion looks great - also the build quality of the tank and stand is superb.
The downside is that the lights are T5 - superb lights but 1047mm. Cannot find any T5 of that length so u need to replace with the Juwel bulbs which are damn expensive. The internal filter is great and powerful but it does take up space.

:rolleyes:Hello to all SA fishkeepers.i joined this forum just for this topic as im, buyin a jebo r2 series 1,2m i have seen these tanks side by side but dude you gona seriously waste you money on a jewel ,sure they made in germany and look superb but jewel and jebo have the same [TUV & GS] garantee .both are glass not acrylic both come with lighting and a cabinet the jewel has a internal fitration system with a heater and the new t5 hilide technology super powerful and exelent but replacement you gonna pay R300+ for a replacement wereas the jebo has standard floresent lights but many of them to provide prettty good lighting and that filter in the jewel is not good enough and has expensive monthly replacements foam ,carbon etc plus you get killer deals on the jebo like me im getting it for R3800

Shakester... I can't speak for Jewel, because I've never had one...

But I can comment on the Jebo... It's not glass bud, it's acrylic.

The new ones DO NOT come with internal filters at all... and you HAVE to buy a filter. This is a downside, because even a sub-standard filter that comes with the tank is better than nothing. Often newbies spend all their hard earned cash on a tank, and then realise that they need to spend another grand on a decent filter...

Personally, I would prefer the Jewel if it came with T5's, because they are a lot better... but I have a Jebo... and I have had no problems with it yet.

lol slagter that my lfs lol 15min drive for me its great. i love the place the staff are friendly, they know me on sight by now, and their fish are usually in good condition and not too pricey. going in tomorow, it was pay day yesterday and the money is burning a hole in my pocket lol.

on the subject though their tanks are stunning, i would love to go in the back and see how its done. i like their dark stained cabinet tanks and alot of them do include filters ect. id consider paying them a visit justinj it doesnt hurt to take a look and shop around abit.

    regards amber
