Ok, so its taken a while to take some pics but better late than never. These pics start from a week ago since setup, and Im still waiting for the water to clear up a bit.
This is a 2 foot that I built myself, and decided to go with black silicone as it really makes a tank look "framed" and its my favourite. I painted the back solid black, built an internal filter and covered it with black PVC that is normally used for tank finishing, and it really makes the filter dissapear into the back!!!
The stand is an antique that the wife very kindly donated to me:bigsmile: ( Screwed to the wall with "L" brackets for stability)
The return hose seen at the top is only temporary while I am busy finishing the tap system which can be seen on the far right of the internal filter.
I am busy building the lid this weekend which is being made out of black perspex, housing two globes that run off a digital ORBIS data log timer (An awesome digital timer that can even change on/off times according to season - winter or summer. I can stagger the times for both lights to simulate dusk and dawn. The digital thermometer will also be built in.
I added an nice piece of wood this evening, will take updated pics tomorrow and upload them.

    Nice build dude!

The tank looks slightly higher than a standard 2ft... just a suggestion from my side, google Euro Bracing... I think based on the height og the tank, it might be a good idea for you to add bracing to it.

Any other tank builder's have ideas? Am I correct here?

    Gaf,
Very nice tank. What is the glass thickness? - euro bracing.
Do I see black Silicone, or is it black corner strips?

    Agree with zoom,do the bracing.

Are you going to build a canopy?

Wow that looks good! Love your filter.

Where did you get the black silicone? And what paint did you use for the background?

    LOL
    I should have asked.
A flat lid with sliders or an A-frame type canopy?

    Thanks alot guys!!!!
Actually the tank measures 370mm in height and the glass is thicker than what is generally used on a 2 foot.

Starting on a three foot this afternoon for a friend of mine as he is also crazy about the black silicon.
The silicone I am using is difficult to get hold of though, and it is not toxic at all. We used it on all our marine setups.

For black silicone, ask prof Dirk. He imported some great German black silicone, and could
help you out, as he had a few big tubes left.

Thanks Gertjc, I do have quite a bit at the moment as I bought an entire box full of the large tubes.

Very cool build ... You gonna get a cheap black comb from say disc$m and stick it on your intake to make sure that no fish land in your filter?

What is the filter configuration? overflow onto filter floss (bating), down and up through the blue stuff (what is that?) over a drip tray onto some ceramics and then out via what l/h pump ... really like the way this is done.

Thanks F Fish, The comb idea is brilliant!!! I will do that today. Overflow into fine wool ( Normal cheap white filter floss ) then into blue floss which is much coarser from the LFS at Hillfox, then over Bio Balls. Using a 650 Lh pump.

Still busy with the lid but got the tap from the return pump completed. NB this tap is actually from the mrs's 5L wine box. Worked like a charm!!!!
