    Hi There Guys & Gals

As per my previous thread my Giant Redtail Gourami (Charlie) was being kept by my father-in-law and this weekend he asked me to fetch him because he caught Charlie gulping down some of his swordtail babies. So I had to set up a 3ft temp tank for him until my 6ft is completed. Yesterday afternoon I purchased 2x Frontosa (4 & 6cm) and 2x Texas Cichlid (5 & 6cm) to keep Charlie company.

I was really suprised to discover how cheap I got the Frontosa from. The guy at the LFS told me they were Burundi Frontosa but I am not quite sure whether it is true!

Can you guys help to indentify which Frontosa species is this?

thanks Riyadh, it also has some blue colouration on it's face very lightly at this stage. My concern it that the little bigger fellow keeps on picking on the smaller one is this normal?

    Many Thanks
    Keshen

Well they get really big. The biggest I have owned was a burundi male who was +- 30cm. But the biggest I have seen was much bigger than that. They reckon males can reach 45cm in the right conditions and living long enough too reach that size. My male was 5 and a half years old at that size. Sean

What size tank will you be housing them in. They reckon a rule of thumb is that each frontosa needs 20 gallons. So the bigger the better. A 6ft tank is a good size. Sean

Texas Blacklisted not sure but it is widely available in almost all LFS. To answer Sean question, the tank is going to be 1.8x700x700 = 900lt

I quote from the forum rules and regulations:
" Any species on the South African black list are not allowed to be discussed in the context of keeping them in aquaria. TASA will endeavour to keep an updated black list on the site for reference."
Please refrain from discussing blacklisted species, as above.
We do not encourage the keeping, trading, giving away, propagating, breeding or discussing Blacklisted species, in the "context of keeping them in aquaria."
Thanks for everyone's participating and understanding.
    Gert.

    Hi Gert

I fully understand where you coming from, but as I made it clear I was not aware that this Cichlid species was on the BL furthermore I am not encouraging anyone on this forum to keep or trade this species. By the way I not the only one that have this species in SA so no need to bit my head off!!

Infact as a fish forum we should have a reporting list where we can list LFS that keep BL species and have this list forward to the Dept of Agriculture, etc. I find it very hard to believe that LFS are not educated on BL species when they are the ones are ordering the stock. (Please note that this is a general discussion and I am not figure pointing anyone)
