    Hi Guys,

This weekend I went from my beginner 40l tank to my lovely new 160l tank. I put my 21 inhabitants in last night... and before you all go do cartwheels about putting fish into a new tank without cycling for a week etc, let me explain me set up...

Put all the plants/rocks/substrate etc in on Friday. Took half the filter from my old tank to add to the new tank, and took half the water from the old tank into the new. This established the bacteria. I then let the tank cylce from Friday night through to late last night. Then last night i took ALL the filter material from the old tank into the new, and ALL the water from the old into the new. Except for accidentally squashing a Danio against the glass with the net, all the fish seem very happy to have the extra space around, and are very lively and happy. I actually did not think the Danio would survive, as he showed signs of 'bruising', but he's pulled through and playing tag with all the other danios.

This is what I have currently:
    7 x Pristella Tetra's
    6 x Zebra Danios
    4 x Black widow tetra's
    2 x Guppy
    2 x Cory catfish
    1 x Angel
    1 x Betta.
(I did not think an angel and beta make suitable tank mates... but they are best friends!!!)

Now having gone from the 40l to the 160l, the tank looks very sparse, and I'd like to get more fish.

What can you guys recommend me to get, taking into account what I already have?
(I'd like to get a shoal of maybe 10-12 neon tetra's... yes, no, maybe???)

I've included a picture of the tank if it helps...

    Thanks Speedz,

Yeah, I like the cory's too. Could I mix the different variation (i.e bronze & albino) or should I stick to the bronze (like I've got?)

I'm hoping in time the plants at the back will grow and cover all the equipment... Looks terrible with so much hardware visible. You'd think someone would invent a filtration system that looks like a rock, or a heater that looks like a piece of wood...

Hey Zoom it's lookin' good. If you are going to add more cories rather stick to the type you have as they are schooling fish and prefer the company of their own kind eg. bronze with bronze etc.

Careful with getting neon tetras with the angel - when the angel grows up it'll have some nice live food :)

Absolutely, which is why I'm enlisting your services when it comes to where to plant what in the 2m. :)

PS: After all, the plants do have to enhance the FISH :) :) hehehehe....stirring the pot a little :)

    Hey Solex69

I'll gladly post some more pics. I'll get some on tomorrow evening. My tank lights have turned off for the evening. I also took out some of the plastic stuff this evening. I'd really like to get the more real look with more real plants.

Not sure at what point I'd need to go with CO2... but very scared about getting to that... constly from what I've heard.

If I remember correctly, and I'm sure Solex will correct me if I'm wrong, he paid around R150 for the complete setup (Tetra). Thereafter the cost would be around R50 per canister.

    Hi guys,

did some reading of my book last night,

Could Igo with "botia Sidthimunki" (Chain loach) - a few of
    Platy fish?

as suitable companions for my current community?

I actually do not know. A business associate of mine is doing some renovations at his house and didn't have the space for this tank. It's the smallest of his 3 he had. The other two are built into the house, as in they create walls between the kitchn and dining, and a wall between the lounge and foyer.

He use to keep Marine in this tank... which meant it needed a very good clean, and then I turned it into my tropical tank.

If you read my thread on 'Bargain" you'll see it was offered to me at R 1,000.00, (incl heater, pump and filter). My boss was present when he offered it to me, so my boss said he would settle the bill on my behalf. So it was no cost to me.

I'll see tonight if I can find any labels or names on it... but I suspect that they have all worn off. I've noticed that the salt from being a marine is rather ruthless! Coroded a bit of the coatings on the inside of the hood, and the flouresent tube holders.
