New fanatic in Pretoria East - starting up

Awww thanks for all the warm welcomes people! Really makes me feel at home

Yip, got the tank filled, some subtrate in, basic filter set up...
had a light in but it died, lol...
And 1 each fantainl blackmoore, yellow comet and red comet... yes yes i know lol

I want to get some guppies - i love those little buggers
And come monthend i probably need to get a heater and convert from cold to proper tropical...

Guppies are lovely fish! Just make sure to get either only males, or only females otherwise you're going to end up with a tank full of fry haha They breed at a rapid rate, and the mommies actually store sperm, so they can give birth many times over from one mating.

 

Lol i had guppies when i still lived with the parents, and somehow only managed one fry in two years. Dont know, perhaps they were unhappy lol
But i wouldnt mind them breeding - might end up with a house full of tanks
Anyone in the East have some they want to sell? I found a guy on gumtree @R5 a guppy (eish - crazy... lol) so if anyone else has a few to spare let me know?

I know what you mean we've been in the hobby for about 2-3 months now, and we're already on our third tank (ok, can't really call the quarantine tank a tank now can we)

There's just nothing that can relax a human being more than sitting down and looking at the peace an quite of a tank is there?

 

Spot on Peter! That's the first thing I do when I get home, say hello to the fishies and just stare at everything. Then my cat, Nixon, gets very jealous, jumps onto the counter and blocks the fishtank from view.

 

Lol i know the feeling - in my case the wife blocks the view from the fishtank, and then the puppy... But i'm not complaining - just for the record. lol

Dude guppys don't spawn they are livebearers.

Yaay! Welcome. Ha, on the guppy thing, I started out with 5 orange Plattys, now I have about 30...

 

Hey and welcome Peter. I live in Garsfontein and I can give you about 4-6 Guppies. (I think Orange with black dots and blue body) I would give you more but i sold 60 of mine to the petshop last week. These will colour up in about a week then i will be able to tell them apart.
