ok i uploaded pix! go check em out guys! So i got an aquah2o at62 tank.. so thats a 2ft long by about 2ft high... have about 20 malawis, 4 angels, 4 parrots, 1 surviving dwarf gourami and 1 brown eel that looks like a fire eel but i dont know the proper name... about a week ago all the lil fish started dying so i thought maybe it was just an ammonia spike so i did a nice big water change and thought it would be fine... but it wasnt! then my fav compressor died and thats when enough was enough! So that night it occurred to me that i never put aquarium salt, ever! lol so i put a generous portion of salt and it did the trick.. few days ago i got 2 compressors :)

ye so thats my story lol... well i do have another tank but... im not sure if i should talk about it..

    Hmmm.... where to start....

Welcome Tremayn, welcome to the hobby. Can I suggest you STOP buying fish, and do some SERIOUS research before carring on.

It would sound as if you have been seriously conned by your Local Pet Store... and I suspect you will be tossing in the hobby very soon.

I try not to be the bad-a$$ of the forum... so I'm going to try and say this in the most nicest way I can... and I really do appologize if this comes out as harsh... but there is really no nice way of saying this.

First of all your tank is SERIOUSLY overstocked!

Secondly, as far as I know, Malawis, angels and parrots all come from different types of water... and they will die off (and soon).

Lastly... WHY would you put aquarium salt into a tropical tank? Aquarium salt is for medicating in a seperate container, or for MARINE tanks.

Go read these 2 articles I prepared this week:

    lol,just don't add to much.(1 teaspoon per 50L)

P.S it doesn't kill parasites, you should just add a little since most parasites don't like salt.

Seeing as your fish died before you added the salt i'm guessing they got some sickness from one of the new fish you added to the tank.just a question, when you bought the fish did you add the water in the bag to your aquarium?

yes that must be the prob. no i never add water from the bag, i always use the bucket method then just use a net and put the fish in the tank and throw the water on the grass... just cant trust that water

not all the fish died, about 4 of the smallest 1s died before i put the salt and i checked the ph and it was fine, temp has been 25degrees always and i even test the thermometer and it works

well all is mostly right then, you need to get another tank to deal with your overstock problem, just add 50% of your old tank water to the new one, then fill tham up with tap water and add anti-clorine,wait for the temp to be about 20c in the new tank then you can add some of your fish to it.

with you there,as long as the water isn't filtered with none-aquarium chem then it should be alright.

i put alil water from my tank in the new 1 then put aqua safe and quick cycle... want some bacteria to build up :) .. on mon ill put some fish in it

no its 1 of those big filter things to make tap water better... has like carbon and stuff in the filter. I figured it must b better than just plain ol tap water :)
